Don't be duped by online trivia

So the cell phone bill just came in for the family. We did good again, nobody went over the limit. But wait a minute, what's this $10 charge for PREMIUM MESSAGING on my daughter's line ? Come to find out, through a little forensics, I found the culprit.

There is a company advertising on Facebook, as a harmeless add, asking you to check your IQ. Kind of like "trivial pursuit" or "are you smarter than a fitth grader".

At the end of the test you get your score on how you did only if you provide you CELL PHONE NUMBER. We all want our results. They will send you a text message with a secret code to get your results. This Seems innocent.

In the smallest font known to eyes, at the end, before you get your score, it says if you hit enter after entering your cell number, you agree to join a $9.95 per month trivia service. I need my 3.0 glasses to see it

SCAM

I have Verizon, and they said  basically , they are a collection agent, and it's out of their hands. But they could cancel additional charges.. Sort of like "congratulations you dialed a Carribean scam line".

This was on Facebook !

Not very social. There are Bigger scams in the news that affect me more. This one just irritated me.

The name to remember when you want it done right.

Claude - You're not the only one. We had a similar experience with our son's cell phone. Att was a bit more helpful. They removed to charge and blocked the vendor.

Claude, my sister used my phone and we got that charge also with verizon, but verizon didn't remove the charge.

Wow, now I will spend time checking all our cell phone bills. It's amazing how they sneak these things through.

I have sent messages to Facebook, with no reply about the "Trickafication", if you will, when it comes to the placement of the links. My wife loves to play the games (as do I) and she fell for the same IQ challenge. Facebook puts the links on the page in places that appear relevant to what you are doing.
