The Twitterization Of Active Rain...!!!

By
Title Insurance with Patriot Land Transfer, Inc.

I've always been a no-frills kind of guy...bottom line diplomacy suits me fine...

I'll take the short post over the long post any day, and cutting to the chase is my usual MO...BUT...

Will Active Rain become subject to the popularity currently circulating around Twitter...more importantly, will Active Rain become a more exotic tracking device for those who can't confine their thoughts to a few sentences and a few dozen words...

This does concern me inasmuch as our world is approaching warp speed with new technology, but, at the same time, it is witnessing a contraction of attention span from seconds to nanoseconds...hence, the gap between good communication skills and the latest social networking tools is becoming much too wide for my comfort level...

If this trend continues, no one will pay attention to anyone, but each person will Twitter their lives away while the rest of the Twitter World watches...maybe...

I, for one, don't get Twitter...Why do I need to let everyone know my every move...and conversely, why would anyone care about another's every move...is there that great of a 'need to know' everything...???

I say slow down...!!!

Relax and enjoy your work...your career choice...do not consider work as a drudgery that needs Twitter to spice it up...

Now, many of my dear friends are Twitterers...and I respect their choice to participate there...but...

A sense of accomplishment for a good days work well done is more than enough motivation to keep your nose to the grindstone, mind your own business, use constructive and creative communication skills, develop meaningful relationships with business and social associates...not superficial, but deep and lasting and enduring...and enjoy a successful career path...

I'd rather be good friends with 100 than blindly and aimlessly track 2,000...

So, my friends, don't be so eager to follow me around...I'm not an exciting guy...And if you need to ask me something, call me...that's what phones are for...!!!

Whatever you do, don't spoil our beloved Active Rain with diluted content or quick sound bytes...If you must be aglitter with Twitter, be discreet and don't contaminate our AR platform...!

Writing shorter posts...a good thing...! Saying nothing worthwhile...better to be silent...that's as aglitter as gold...!!! Blogging on Active Rain...PRICELESS...!!!

I'm seeing more and more of the very short, Twitter style posts- "here I am, this is what I'm doing" on AR. They make me wonder WHY the poster thought they needed to post that. Do that many people really care?

Agree with you, don't get the tweeter thing either. Tried it, didn't much care for it. HOWEVER, seems we have many senators and congress folk who were tweeting away last night as the President spoke. Hmmm....lets see, showing up at 8AM to get a good seat for a little cameo on TV (nothing better to do?) .....tweeting during the speech....And we pay these folks how much????

Scott,

They're constantly talking about CEOs getting paid too much...I'm not sure Congress isn't a bigger drain on the economy...!!! :) Thanks,   Fran

Fran... I don't really get it either.  I hear and believe that it can be good for your business, but as of yet, have figured no way to get to that point.  I reckon I'm still struggling with the basics, and haven't even decided yet whether or not it's worth the time and effort.  Good stuff!  Keep it up...

I think my husband is right when he questions why people want to protect their privacy on one hand, and then willingly give it up completely on the other hand by using Twitter.

I dont twitter, tweet or twirp..it makes me twitch! Way too unnerving for me... so I totally agree- it takes the communication out of the communicating!

Fran, I love Twitter, but folks can spend tooooooooooooooooooooooo much time there and it wil hurt their busines. There PR will go down. It is fun, it brings business but it can also be a big distraction. This coming from someone who uses it and has tons of followeres.

I follow a lot of Conservatives there and I have grown and learned and formed fantastic relationships there.

But it can be used tooo much if you are a Realtor, IMO.

Add me to the list of folks that still doesn't twitter... I have an account but just don't get it from a business perspective. Personally I can see the value in keeping up with friends, but eh, it's something I can live without.

Great post! I'm so busy with real estate I can barely keep posts coming on ActiveRain, respond to facebook and have a life! Twitter will have to take a back seat at least for now!
