The Power of the Tetons

When I was first dragged to Jackson, Wyoming, I was little more than a child. I remember that it was cold and that there was a lot of elk, not much more than that. So, when my mother convinced me to take a trip with her a couple of years ago, I wasn't sure if it would be for me. Large mountains? I live in Colorado; I see them all the time.

But, okay, a chance to take some time off and see new things. Why not? What I didn't expect was to fall in love with the Grand Tetons. It's hard not to. They are more than just another set of the Rockies. They seem to tear through the sky with sure force of will. The snake river that sits in the forefront of everything seems to carve humanity from nature, separating the hectic every day life that I know from the complete ruggedness of the Tetons. Hiking to one of the lakes strips away any stress that still lingered.

Marmots greeted us from rotting logs or tall boulders. Since they were everywhere and were constantly playing and chattering, the marmots seemed like friends you never had and always longed for. Sitting on a log, listening to the lake, life seemed more perfect under the Tetons.  The way they grace the skyline.  The Snake River looking like it was Photoshoped in just to make a great picture.  The Tetons truly are pure escapism.
