How Do We Wake Up the Giant?

Home Builder with CSR

I read a blog post about something Rep. Barney Franck said and it set me off..

From everything that I have seen, Congress has been poking us to see if we will bite. Each poke gets a little harder. Why hasn't Sen. Dodd been fired or impeached for getting a favorable "special"loan from Countrywide? Why hasn't Barney Franck been fired or impeached for getting a local bank in his district TARP money for which they did not qualify? Why haven't many Congresspeople been fired and in some cases prosecuted for their gross violations of the public trust?

Each violation is a poke at us. When we don't wake up, they know the giant is sleeping and so they get to do something bigger, more deceitful, more corrupt. It is not surprising that Barney Frank said this. Look at this.

I see and hear allot of anger about this stuff here. What do we do next, when talk is not enough. I want to know how we actually do something. How are we going to wake up the giant?

Here is how I have started. I am open to any other ideas. Please pass on any you may have.

1. I post my outside blog link into my "what are you doing now" line in Facebook. I do this and get friends to take a look at what I have to say. Some would never comment but by my number of hits they are reading and clicking on links. It also can be seen by folks who are not friends but just see me on another friends FB.

2. I have joined conservative groups on FB to get the word out. Facebook is how Obama reached so many so fast. He started a cool fad and people followed. Time to your this same technology to our advantage.

3. Join Tea Party here is a link. Check it out.

4. Join

5.  Blog and debate the issues with folks like Terry. The more they write the less they can defend what is happening.

Why wasn't David Vitter fired or impeached for breaking a biblical commandment by committing adultery with DC prostitutes? Why wasn't Larry Craig fired or impeached for solicting sex in an airport bathroom?

Who the heck knows.

I hope we wake up soon!

They should all be fired IF they are NOT doing their job that they were PUT there to do.  These issues you mention, which I do not condone, are personal things.  If I suggested that you or anyone else that you know and associate with be fired for these things, what would you say?  You can't have it both ways.  Now you want to fire people for breaking a biblical commandment?  Get real man!

Thanks for the links.  Keep fighting the good fight!

John: Guess you haven't been paying attention to the theocrats that run the republic party. Actually, yes. I do believe that screwing around on their spouse reflects on character. I do believe we are in agreement that too many in congress lack what it takes to govern and to represent what their constituents want.

Why hasn't Republican House whip Eric Cantor been fired or impeached for getting his wife's bank a few hundred million bucks in the banking bailout?  (Cantor's role model is the disgraced Tom DeLay.)

The only way to wake up the giant is if we as individuals stop identifying ourselves as democrats or republicans.

These people feel immune.  Impeachment means nothing.

The only way for them to wake up and listen is to have a large percentage of americans ditch their current party and fight to bring in a 3rd party.

I'm for the Centrist Party filling the role...but independent will do - whatever Independent stands for.

I do think the giant is starting to wakeup.  People are starting to take a stand, call their congressmen, protest etc.  The question is will they listen.  The fact that 3 republicans voted for the stimulus bill tells me not.  They will do what they think will get them reelected.

The giant is awake. Over 70% of Americans approve of Obama and his policies. There you have it.

Are any of you watching the CPAC convention in Washington. I see some giants speaking out. Interesting fact is that the attendence this year is up over 40% from last year. Scott I think there is change in the air and it may be some of those 70% you speak of changing their mind.

I appreciate your comments and you may be right, I do not know. What I do know is that eventually, the truth emerges. Eventually, the lie gets revealed. I hope it is not too late. I, for one, have been blogging too much, getting too angry at what I see and hear. I have engaged in rude behavior brought on by my own sense of what is right and good. I have judged.

I have often preached that the best way to effect change is to lead by example. To be what you would want from others. To exemplify honor, integrity, justice, and respect. I have done none of these things while blogging. I find myself getting angrier and angrier and more despondent day by day. I see a direct relationship between ignorance and greed and where we are and it maddens me. What is worse is that my anger and depression has moved from the blog to my personal life.

Everywhere I look I see apathy and ignorance. Every Walmart and Best Buy represents ugliness to me. Every talk radio show that exposes the politicians for what they are and every newscast that tries to hide it.

My point is that I don't want to be an angry guy. I don't want to wallow in my depression about things I cannot change. I want to be happy and I want my own success to be contagious. That is how I plan on influencing the world, through my own self peace. I hope that others may someday see it and ask me what gives it to me.

I still do not like liars and cheats, but since I cannot change them and I cannot police them all, I refuse to let their behavior influence mine. What I am saying is that I don't think that me preaching to the choir here is helping anyone, so I am going to stop for now.

The best thing that we can do to fight tyranny is not battle against it. Many people have died in revolutions that overthrew one tyrannical government just to replace it with another. No, being enlightened, educated, and aware is probably the best thing we can do to combat the greed and corruption that endures in Washington. The more of us that educate ourselves, the less we will have to yell. The more of us that exemplify decency and integrity the more people we will inspire to act the same.

I wish you all luck and I will continue to check in from time to time. I am not abandonning the cause, I am just changing my personal startegy for dealing with the problems we face.

CF: I took some time away and I found it to be a good thing. You know, you are probably one of the more enlightened posters on AR. You generally don't get dirty like some of us in here, and I appreciate that.

Obama isn't perfect, nobody is. He is doing his best right now and I am giving him a chance....especially given what he has inherited from the previous administration (trillions of dollars in deficits, 2 wars, crumbling economy). One would hope that a mere 36 days into office, some here on AR would be trying to support him and offer suggestions instead of posting rediculous videos. Some can only cut and paste comments from free republic as they have not an original thought in their heads. Some listen to talk radio and for their opinions, instead of attempting to understand what is at stake.

Good luck and hope that you stop back in.
