Are we stuck with the not so ActiveKEY from GE...How many more bad products are we stuck with?

not so active key

Why should we be stuck using a sub standard tool? Why is there no competition? Who makes these decisions for us?

The only plus to this new key is that it synchronizes automatically, but it doesn't matter much because you will not be able to use it, because it runs out of batteries.  They should give us the car charger for free, just because it doesn't hold a charge and because we have to lug around something bigger and clumpier. I was in the professional development committee for many years and never once was I asked what I though about a product.

Go to this survey maybe numbers will get there attention and they will ask us what we want.

Hi Rosa,

I agree with you 100% and being in Tampa I know what you mean, they come up with stuff and I wonder why???????? I decided just to go the smart phone route and have control of my key, they are horrbile in my book!!

I agree, this key certainly is a step backwards when compared to the key it replaced. I've had the battery run down overnight when it is in the searching mode. It makes an obnoxious amount of noise every few minutes while it searches for a tower. At an open house where it was very quiet I had to take it outside so as not to keep hearing it emitting noise.

Worst Key Ever. I have had to replace mine 3 times due to the Buttons not working, Error codes constantly, etc. etc. Three times I have been at a house ready to show and had the key fail. Prompting me to call GE and go through a question and answer period while the debug and send me a code. Time 15 minutes. 15 minutes might not sound like much but it can be frustrating not only for me but the Buyer's and the Seller's whose appointments are now all out of whack. You can save on the frustration of having to constantly charge the battery by turning the thing off. But even that process is not simple. Half of the time the buttons don't work. Just a piece of junk that I am stuck with while the MLS offers only the solution to upgrade to a palm or some such device ( of course for a much more elevated fee ).

Just last year we switched to the sentrilock system.  There is no charge to the agents to use the system.  You do have to purchase the lockboxes (my office does provide the lockboxes for the agents); however there's no monthly/yearly fee of any kind.  I believe NAR endorses, partners, maybe owns not sure, the sentrilock system.  It is actually very cool.  You only carry a card with a smart chip in it and your picture on it.  It's the size of a credit card.  The system allows for the agent to log in on their computer, view showings, also if the property is vacant you can set up one day codes for contractors/repair man, agents who may not be on the system to get into show the home, appraisers etc.  Obviously we have safeguards in place when we give out the codes.  The agent population really seems to like it thus far.

I have not had a problem with my key.  I just keep it in my vehicle at all times plugged into the 12 volt charger.  If the active key battery discharges, you will only need to connect it to the charger for about 10 minutes to gain enough power to open a key box.

WOW!!! I was in the middle of editing the blog and didn't even know I had you guys commenting already. It just drives me crazy when other people that don't even have to do the work decide for us.

A little off the subject but a great topic for another blog:

Just like the decisions of making the State Real estate tests in other languages, come on.... if you were going to buy Properties in China would you want your realtor to speak Chinese? Who makes these stupid decisions? How can you negotiate, or represent your buyer or seller if you don't know the language of that country????
