Despite the recession it appears that several cities in North Carolina remain popular relocation areas.  Nevertheless, nationwide relocation traffic is about one third what we experienced a couple of years ago. And we have seen a substantial decline in activity on average over the past couple of months as homebuyers were waiting for substantial action from the federal government.  The continued decline in home prices and the increase in unsold home inventory have led many potential buyers to delay purchasing decision.

Note that trends in relocation destinations do not necessarily follow local trends in sales.  People relocate due to retirement and/or to follow job opportunities. Despite adverse market conditions in many areas, relocations continue.  Due to economic development in some areas, the trends remain generally favorable for many cities.  For instance, the Mobile Bay area of Alabama is an area for which we are receiving considerable leads.  Even certain areas of Arizona, which have been extremely hard hit by the housing crisis, receive a considerable number of leads on a weekly basis.  BuyersUSA Relocation continues to process a steady flow of homebuyer relocation leads for many areas of the US.  In fact, about 10% of our 5,011 covered cities are still receiving a considerable flow of leads. 

We anticipate that as the impact of the nearly $800 billion economic recovery law becomes a reality during the second half of 2009 that job-related relocation will again become a major factor and may substantially refocus relocations into different areas.  As the recovery in the general economy begins improving the housing market, we anticipate a rising number of relocations.
