Knowledge Trumps Everything

By
Mortgage and Lending with VanDyk Mortgage

Knowledge trumps everything in the end. You deal with all kinds of personalities in my business. I get a real cross section of attitudes and behaviors. Maybe it is because anything to do with the financial component of a deal causes clients and their Realtors stress.

I understand the time sensitivities of real estate transactions; but I also know that if a Realtor has a general question about a loan product or needs verification about rates it is something that can wait just a bit for an answer if I'm on another call or in a meeting. My expertise is worth the wait, really.

To get impatient about not being responded to immediately and then going to someone else to get an answer, just any answer, is just wrong. If you have to wait for someone to get back to you it is likely because they are busy - busy solving problems and closing loans! A Realtor does himself or herself a disservice by going to the uninformed because ego dictates that you must be paid attention to at a precise moment in time. It is not the squeaky wheel that gets greased...it is the professional who doesn't take a hissy fit that ultimately gets the quality information needed to get their job done... Just had to shout about that for a minute...thanks for letting me vent!

Brian,

How strange, I just posted a blog about the questions on the new $8000 First Time Homebuyer's Tax Credit.

My stance, I will sell homes and the lenders can sell loans.

I do not know which program is best for every buyer. That is why I ALWAYS INSIST THAT BUYER'S GET PREQUALIFIED BY A REPUTABLE LENDER. It is so great to have them meet with the lender and bring a preapproval letter to me when they start the home buying process. When we find the right home I have already spoken with the lender if I have questions about anything these questions have already been answered...

It is so good to have buyer's prequalified.

Thanks for your comments.

Venting is defiantly allowed on AR! We are here for you Brian.

Maby if an agent has a client that is demanding instant answers, the agent has no choice to seek an immediate answer?

@Carolyn - What a perfect best practice!  No more wasting time with someone who either cannot buy or buy the price range they want you to take them out to see.

@ Brent & Pat -Thanks for letting me blow off some steam.  Sometimes it gets to me too.  Brent I could see that situation might pop up, but given the rapid changes in lending practices for both lenders and mortgage insurance companies, being correct may be a little more important than a 5 minute turn time.
