A Thank You in the Rain - A Simple Way to Make an Impact & Gain Agent Referrals

By
Real Estate Broker/Owner with www.GoSimplyTexas.com TX Lic 0530037

Yesterday I went to check my mail and I got a card-sized envelope in the mail. I opened it up only to find a Thank You note from a fellow Active Rainer, Rick Tourgee with Century 21 Shoreland. It thanked me for commenting on his blog and then mentioned that he would welcome any referrals for the Cape Cod area in Massachusetts.

At first, I couldn't remember WHAT blog post I had commented on that made such an impact. Then I tried to think of any blog posts that I had commented on that could have been particularly kind or generous. So I looked up Rick to find the post in question. Rick had posted about a recent Valentines Party he held for clients and community members. My comment wasn't a candidate for "Best Comment of the Year". It was a simple, 'atta boy - good job - type comment.

This simple act touched me, and what's more is that I am certain to add Rick to my referral network. If Rick was thoughtful enough to go out of his way to send me a Thank You card, I am confident that he would go out of his way to treat any referral I had sent him even better.

So, Rick - a big Thank You from Texas!

I think those simple thank you cards could go a long way everytime you have a new contact for a listing, showing, open house, etc.  I am not saying I do it on a regular basis, but I should.

Thanks for the reminder.

I think anyone who sends a card makes a huge impact.  I really should incorporate that myself into my marketing for 2009.

The little touches that mean so much!  So nice he went the extra mile and that certainly down the road will be remembered should you need to send a referral in that area.

Sending personal hand written cards has been a huge success for me.  I try to write atleast 5 per week.  The responses I get from these cards AMAZING!!

Consistently sending hand written cards is something I'm really trying to do more of this year. Like you said, it really made Rick stand out to you and that's our goal too.

Excellent idea.  Sounds like you made a good connection and Rick sounds like a great guy.  I received a card from an AR member once.  It was nice because I dont think we said too much to each other before.  Now we talk periodically.  It was a nice gesture.

Kim- A huge thank you for the post mentioning my card!  I do believe that a card with a personal note inside makes a much larger impact.  Technology makes many things much easier in our business, thank goodness.  But, I look to make people remember how I make them feel when they touch my life- that's what this business is all about, the personal connection.  I hope to refer someone to you in the not too distant future!

I think that a gracious thank you is always appreciated especially these days. The internet is a great new frontier but nothing will ever replace a personal note of thanks!
