Housewarming parties make me happy

By
Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Southern Shores

Last night I went to housewarming party for friends who recently bought a foreclosure.  The home wasn't in bad shape (compared to some properties I have shown) but it definitely needed some work.  The buyers are first time home buyers and it was very exciting to see what they have accomplished since closing was only two weeks ago.  They've been very creative in not spending a lot of money to make a drastic improvement in the look of the house.  Example:  They spray painted the brass door knobs and light fixtures silver and you really cannot tell it's spray paint.  It looks that good.  I was very impressed.

I just wanted to share my joy, excitement and pride as well at what they have done in a short amount of time.  They have really made that property home.

Buyers who buy foreclosures can gain a lot of "sweat equity".

Smart folks and it appears that they had a good agent.

Lenn - Thank you, I do feel I'm a good agent and always improving.  They don't mind putting some elbow grease into this house and a little effort went a long way.

Kristin J. - I know, I need more buyers like this.  Many people can't look past the cosmetic imperfections.  There are so many deals to be had right now for those who don't mind getting their hands dirty.

Tina - Yes, I love it.  Makes all the frustration the closing process can bring so worth it. =)

Kristin - I should do a before/after picture post.  We took some pictures last night but they didn't really focus on the house.  I will take some next time I go over there and be sure to post.

Mary - Yes, they are creative and smart!  I'm so happy they are enjoying their first home.

Liz - I love first time home buyers!  They have such an excitement it's contagious.

I love hearing about do-it-yourselfers who are creative.  The silver paint thing is new to me - I wouldn't expect that to hold up to wear.  Post pics!

Jenn - Nothing beats the satisfaction of getting a first time buyer into their new home.  And now they can get that $8,000 tax credit.

I'm looking forward to the before/after pics.

So many of the bank owned homes I have visited of late show no love from their former owner. I think it's great that buyers are picking up some great deals and putting the love back into the home.
