Don't Waste Your Seconds

By
Real Estate Agent with Coldwell Banker 69190

There are 31,556,926 seconds in a year. That's a lot of split seconds that could make a drastic difference in your life and the lives of those around you. Each one passes in the blink of an eye quite literally, but it's all relative to how you look at things. Life in general is nothing more than a string of moments connected together to make up an existence. Each and every one of them is an opportunity and time itself is not so much the important thing, it's what you do with that time.

A single second or just a few can make a huge difference in the way your life turns out. Take for example stopping at a traffic light for 30 seconds. In the greater scheme of things, it truly means nothing, but what if it did? What if 30 seconds further up the road and driver runs a red light that you would have been passing through and being trapped at your particular light just saved your life.

Time is precious, and we only get so much of it in this life. None of us really know when it will be our time to go, so there is no way to say how many seconds will be a part of your life. But when you think about in the sense of time is precious and we never know when our time will be up, then you should seriously consider making the most of every second that you have breath in your lungs. You have to grasp at the opportunities that your time presents and take advantage of them.

Your business is not a waste of time- Every chance you get to do something productive for your business is a good chance to take. You never truly know what will pay off for you or what will go bust. But one thing is for sure, not spending enough time planning and developing your business is a massive mistake that will have huge repercussions.

Your family is not a waste of time either- Quite frankly, your family should be above your business, because they will most likely be there when your business let's you down. Much like your own life, there is no true way to measure the seconds that will make up theirs, so make them count. There's a lot to be said for people who make the effort to succeed in business and find the time to balance their family life along with it.

Your dreams are not a waste of time- Your dreams are the very thing that got you to where you are today. At least this is the case for many people, and I hope that you fit within this group as well. Dreams are a form of hope that lead us toward something greater. Every dream is worth pursuing and this in turn requires time. But if you are willing to fight to make your dreams come true, then in my opinion it's time well spent.

Yes, there are a lot of seconds in a year. Each one becomes a still frame within your life that you carry with you the rest of the way through memory. Each one is unique in it's own way and each one can provide or take away. It all depends on what happens within that split second when you blink your eyes and time doesn't stop.

Odd... did a report come out or something?  This is the second post I have read about 'seconds' today.  You definitely need to cherish all of the time you have here.  Make the best of it and don't waste it.

Hi JL,

Great post, and a great reminder for everybody. Your example about a split second making a drastic difference in the outcome of your life reminded me of my younger days. Years ago I used to teach skydiving and was also on a competition team - and a fraction of a second could mean the difference between winning or losing. It could also mean the difference between life and death. So yeah...every fraction of a second was critical. Thanks for the post.

: )

Connie- It all marches on, so make them count.

Michael- I'm sure that split seconds can be really important in sky diving. I have never been, but it seems like it could be fun. Thanks for stopping by.

JL,

One thing I have learned through the years is that I will not waste any time watching television unless my husband asks me to watch something with him.  I don't read unless it is business or education related(and I try to do this in downtime at open houses) and everything else I listen to as a a book on CD in my car - I have to drive and I don't have time to read fiction so I listen to them on CD.

I time block each day but allow that I am spontaneous and don't have a job I can control completely......I evaluate at the end of each day where I am instead of at the end of each year.  It is amazing how you figure out what is important and how to make you time work for you.

When my son was 10 or so, I would take him with me to work and we would Rollerblade together when there were no buyers in the model homes - the rest of the time he would entertain himself with a game boy or something like that.  Never did a client or customer nor my builders complain because I was a single mother who worked weekends but still managed to make it quality time with my son as well......My live has revolved about my son for 21 years and I am not ashamed to say it but at the same time I am a wife and a business owner and attend to each of these with the same enthusiam and direct approach I do everything......

Just do it........life is what you make it.

Julie- Planning your time is always important and I think the fact that you managed to balance your life as a mother and your work as a Realtor so well is great. I've been thinking more and more of listening to books on CD myself, but I haven't done so yet. Life is exactly what we make of it, and I hope to make the most of mine. Sounds like you are making the most of yours.
