Facebook and Active Rain. It's 'The Bomb'!!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Prudential Georgia Realty - Rabun County, Ga.

2009 is the year of Internet networking.

Until recently I had no real presence on Active Rain and must admit, I thought FaceBook was only for teenagers.

Wow!  Was I wrong!!!!!!!

During the past three weeks, I have made contact with real estate professionals all over the world through Active Rain.

In only one week on FaceBook, I have been able to connect with 130 'friends'.  Some are from childhood, some from college.  Most are professionals who are valuable networking sources.

It seems to be more difficult for us babyboomers to put ourselves 'out there' on the Internet.  One of my friends actually told me last week that she didn't want to accept my invitation to join FaceBook because she had 'heard' there are 17,000 child predators on the site.  I told her that at our age, that isn't something she needs to be worried about - personally.

If you aren't already using facebook as another source of networking opportunites, sign up today!  There is no charge for any of the services and it is amazing how many 'friends' you'll find.

So, quit reading this post and go make some friends!

I thought that facebook was for teenagers too. When I signed up, I sure found a lot of my friends that I hadn't seen since I was a teenager waaay back in the 80s.   I still need to learn to use facebook more effectively though.

I just don't have that much time! AR keeps me busy as well as my real estate, life, kids.  Honestly I think some people blog TOO MUCH and maybe there isn't that much of a payoff.

I have a personal FB page and a "fan" page. I do have some business information on the personal page but I keep in "clean" in case clients or potential clients want to view it. However, people will be able to get an idea of what kind of person I am and what my personality is like.  Then I use my fan page for business only. I keep all my current listings on it and have all my contact info posted as well as links to my website. Many people have found success using FB, but I haven't gotten any leads or contacts from it yet. Hopefully having my information out there will keep me in mind if anyone decides to buy or sell a home!

Facebook is a GREAT way to stay connected with your customers, network with other Realtors, and keep in touch with friends, who are always a potential source of business and referrals. My childhood friends who I reconnected with, will eventually have to do SOMETHING with Real Estate. Facebook encourages them to keep me in mind

I just started a Facebook page and already have 43 friends.  I think that Facebook is a great marketing tool as well as a great way to connect to old and new friends.  I look forward to being able to network and keep in touch.

I'm on facebook, activerain and linkedin.  Certainly, any exposure and opportunity to get our names out there couldn't hurt.  I just started really being more commited to blogging.  It works.  People read these things.

It is definitely an important part of marketing to be in as many places as possible, whether that includes Facebook, LinkedIn, ActiveRain, Twitter, etc - The more the merrier.

All of those combined with a great blogging strategy can do wonders!

If you are a residential agent, focus on Facebook -- Facebook is the #1 Business-to-Consumer (B2C) platform.  But if you are a commercial agent, focus on LinkedIn which is the #1 Business-to-Business (B2B) platform.  I hope this tip helps some of you save time trying to figure out what platform to focus on.

BTW, I just wrote a blog post on this very topic -- comparing the many internet marketing platforms. Hope it helps! Here it is: http://get100listings.com/best-real-estate-internet-marketing/

Facebook is an important part of residential marketing, but so is Linked In, especially if you are selling higher end homes.

Pinterest is the latest social networking tool, and its focus on pictures is ideal for residential real estate.

FB, AR, and the other popular social media sites are going to be very important over the next 5 years.   Agents need to start now when it comes to branding themselves online.  If not now then it could be too late!

Lynda, I've made some incredible friends using Facebook. The Group function is awesome, too. Love keeping up with some agents from around the country.

LinkedIn is also a great option to build a good network. But what really matter is building a great connection with home buyers.there is a new System called IREM which will help you to enhance your online visibility.I think you should need to watch this video http://irealestatemarketing.com/SH

I agree that Facebook is a great place to build your connections. It is amazing the connections I have made in one week.

Glad it works for others also.

I agree with Dylan, branding ourselves is crucial, we need to get our story, message who we are out " there ", its a noisy place out there, anything we can do to cut through the noise is a must.
