SNOW DAY!!!

By
Mortgage and Lending

There is something about that four-letter word... SNOW

I still get excited when I hear it in the forecast.  The past few years we have not had much of the white stuff in my part of New Jersey, so getting a measurable snowfall is something special.

I remember the days before we were saturated by news.  No internet, text messages, or announcements streaming across the bottom of the local news.  We'd wake up early, unable to sleep due to the anticipation.  Turning on the transistor radio.  Listening eagerly through the crackles.  The announcer would rattle off numbers.  Then he would say it...  853!!!

That was (I think) the code number that John H Glenn Elementary in Pine Hill would be closed for the day.  It was the next best thing to Christmas morning.

Right now we are getting hit with the 2nd wave of the biggest snow storm we've had in about 5 years.  In the meantime, I've been working for a few hours waiting for the snow to break.  When it does I will venture out to remove a foot a white powder from the steps, sidewalks, and driveway.

I still love the snow.  Instead of a day of fun, it now represents a day of work.  Not only the work needed to clear it away, but the extra work I'll need to do for the time lost from doing my job.  At least I know I have plenty of hot chocolate waiting for me when I'm done shoveling.

Beautiful picture.  The snow might mean more work (shoveling, etc).  but its beauty is overwhelming.

That is a beautiful picture.  We got freak flurries here at the beach this year but I remember snow days from my primary school days in Pa.  Snow days were so much fun as a child!  Stay safe and warm, the headlines are making me cold from here! =)

Love the picture.  Snow is quite rare here on the NC coast, but we have had two dustings this year, which is rare.  Enjoy the snow.  Spring is right around the corner.

Love that picture!!  I love to look at the snow but do not like to have to get out in it!  I look at these days as a great catch up day at the home office getting the piles down and "finding" the top of my desk again! Hee hee.  Enjoy!!

Jenn - It's one of the coldest snows I remember.  I just went out to walk the dog and the flakes are coming down sideways.

I'll be down in Myrtle Beach in April so I'd like to know your favorite pancake/waffle spot.

Thanks.

Diane - I thought the storm moved through your area on it's way here.  I guess you're too close to the water to have gotten snow.

Deborah - I know what you mean.  In about an hour I'll be trying to find the top of my driveway.

James - At least when it's cold we can always just put more clothes on.

As you get older the beautiful times you had with the snow is somehow forgotten, because as you stated it becomes work and unless you hire someone or have a snowblower, this work can be tedious and harmful to your health.

I love your image you captured of the trees with their  covered snow branches, like an enchanted crystal forest. Beautiful. The Nor'easter on Monday left us with a foot of snow. This has been a servere winter in RI.

Kim - Even when we do get snow out here, it doesn't seem to last long.  Today and tomorrow the temps are in the 50's.  We are going to break 60 Sat, Sun, and Mon.

Kathleen - Your area certainly has had a tough winter.  This picture is of my backyard.  There are now deer tracks all throughout the snow.

Karl,

As long as you don't have to go out in this kind of weather, it's beautiful to look at and watch. Great photo. :)

Thanks Steve - I'm not quite the photographer you are.  Good thing I took some pics of the snow because it is close to 60 today.  All the white stuff will be gone by tomorrow at the latest.

I don't love the snow as much as I used to...but there is always something special and amazing about a fresh snowfall when the whole world seems clean and white and sparkly :)

Hi Dora - It's ironic that you just commented on this post now.  I woke up to a light snow this morning.  So much for it being spring.
