Wouldn't it be great if there was a 'how-to' guide for decorating your home? Yes, we watch HGTV and get some wonderful ideas for changes we want to make, but unfortunately, there aren't really any strict decorating rules. The following Do's and Don'ts has some good ideas - Enjoy!
DO: Keep comfort and practicality in mind when you decorate. You want your home to be welcoming to both residents and to guests.
DO: Decorate with your families needs in mind.If you have young children - light colored furniture might not be a wise choice.
DO: Include something living in each room. A bouquet of flowers or a pretty plant are great choices.
DO: Pick a favorite piece of furniture as the focal point. If you have a favorite rock chair, use the style and color of the piece throughout the room.l
DON'T: Everything needs to match. Sure you don't want your room to look chaotic but mixing styles and colors can create interest.
DON'T: Don't be afraid of thinking outside the box. Okay, the dining room table is rectangle shaped - but don't use a rectangle tablecloth. Use placemats, leave the table bare, or have your children create their own placemats.
DON'T: Don't place all the furniture against the walls. I don't know how many times we've seen them arrange furniture in conversational groupins on HGTV - and it really does make the room seem more spacious.
DON'T: White goes with everything. A one color scheme can be dramatic - but all white can make the room seem sort of washed out. Maybe one wall painted with a dark color you love - or if painting is too scarey, how about touches of this color on pillos, rugs and/or throws, artwork, or even a chair.
