Curb Appeal in the Winter Months
Those of us whose winter months include snowy cold days know we face challenges in trying to retain curb appeal behind that Big snow bank.
Curb appeal is the first impression a prospective buyer gets from simply viewing the outside of the home. Just as many folks judge a book by its cover, homebuyers do the same from what they've viewed outside. Here are some easy tricks to get buys to actually step inside.
First, remember all the upgrades inside the house are useless if you can't get buyers inside. A fresh coat of paint or repainting/staining the front door can make a huge impact. Be sure and check the condition of the roof and gutters and fix or replace them if necessary. And don't forget to paint or clean the garage doors and windows.
Secondly, spruce up the front porch. Updating lighting can show off the entrance to your home. Replacing a worn-out doormat can add a caring touch and planters with evergreens can warm up the entry. And don't forget the street number - make sure it's easy to see from the road.
Third, make sure the yard and driveway are free of tree branches, winter toys (sleds, skis), the recycling container, etc. If your landscape includes evergreens, pines, spruce, holly bushes and maybe even some bird feeders - these things could help alleviate the drabness of winter. It's also essential to make sure that buyers can reach your front door easily and safely. Make sure everything has been shoveled and don't forget the 'ice-melt'.
Lastly, make sure your prospective buyers can picture themselves living in your house. When your home is on the market, Less is probably more when it comes to holiday decorations. This will give the buyer a chance to envision your home in its everyday condition.
An easy way to check your home's curb appeal? Just picture yourself driving up to your house - and ask yourself - would you want to live there?
