Have you played with the Fujitsu line of PDF scanners for digitizing files?

Sam, as a matter of fact I used to have a little desktop Fujitsu scanner that I used with our SureScan product that would allow me to scan documents directly into each SureClose file.  For a single user, it worked really well.  We use a Sharp scanner here in our office for multiple users.
