Small Room...Very Big Plasma TV..Help

By
Real Estate Agent with Dazzle Staging and Design

Hello,

I am Redesigning this living room. My clients just purchased a 42" Plasma TV so I have to design around it. I have a problem with placing that 42" plasma TV because as you can see the living room is very small and there is no wall space. The house sits on a hill and the view gives straight out to a busy street. I was considering placing it in front of the window. My other option is in the corner as their old TV is now...but that limits the seating arrangement...What would you do?

The front window (left) has a big shrub covering most of it from outside plus the house sits on a hill so you don't really see "in or out". That 's where I'm thinking the Plasma TV could go.

Your ideas will be most appreciated!

Here is another view..

Thanks again for your suggestions!

Nathalie

You can purchase an "move-able arm" that attaches to the back of the TV when placed on the wall. Then you can position the TV for viewing at different angles in the room.

It there enough space in between the windows? Above where the TV is now?

Just a thought!

Nathalie, not sure of the weight limit on those either. But it may be worth checking on.

Is that a pass through on the opposite wall with a sofa under it? If so I would dry wall over the pass through and and pick up that wall for the TV, then rearrange the furniture. It's never a good idea to eliminate a window. When natural light comes in from only one direction it tends to make the whole room appear "flat".

Okay...this may be a stretch, but these people have slim to almost none for a complete wall space.  It looks like the entrance is to the left in that bottom photo - could they purchase a screen/room divider to create a "wall" coming out from the right side (if you're facing the door from inside), and nestle the TV in that new "faux" corner on an angle.  The screen will not only create another wall, but hide the back of the TV.  Then they could put their sofa and loveseat in an "L" shape on the other side of the room. So that would mean putting the loveseat where the sofa currently is, and then the sofa under the window that on the adjacent wall.

Let us know what you work out!  It really is a challange!

Nathalie ~ I just googled for pictures of room dividers so I could give an example.  Sometimes you can find them at decent prices.  Hobby Lobby has had some before for around $130 and up.

This is a good project to challenge those creative juices!

standing by iron railingYou are probably finished this staging assignment by now?  How did it go?

Were we to assume that there was no other space for the new tv?  If the room you have shown us is the one they plan to put the tv in, it can no longer be a living room, but becomes more of a family/media room.  Is that what they want?

Let us know what you did.
