While I actually am Irish (and have the freckles to prove it), I love celebrating St. Patrick's day with all of my friends. Although there is no doubt I love Myrtle Beach, I spent five years of my life going to college - undergrad and graduate - in Columbia, SC and it is one of my favorite cities. It's small enough to not be overwhelming but large enough to have anything you want at your fingertips at any time of day. Myrtle Beach has yet to have a 24-hour Sonic which I was sad to leave in Columbia.
Each year, Columbia holds a St. Patrick's Day festival in a section of town called Five Points and there is something for everyone during the all-day festival.
It costs $11 for advance tickets or $15 at the door. Five Points has a fountain they turn green and everyone on the streets - they block off the entire Five Points intersection for walking traffic - is decked out in green attire. It's non-stop fun from the 5K run/walk, a children's carnival, 5 different stages with music from country to blues to rock, street vendors, and of course green beer!
I have such a good time every year I have been and can't wait to bring some new Myrtle Beach friends to Columbia for the experience! This year the festival is being held on March 14th. I need to check the weather forecast.
Hope everyone has a safe and happy St. Patrick's Day! I know it's a a couple weeks away but I'm excited!
This was my first St. Patty's in Five Points experience years ago. We are standing next to the stage where Collective Soul was about to go on, if that gives you a better idea of the age of this picture. =)
I have a thing for Jeeps - love them - and green shoes too which are buried in this pic under my green sweatshirt...
I always run into people I haven't seen in forever! We just walked into Neely so had to stop and visit.
