Debilitating headaches

Almost three decades ago, I began having headaches.  So, you say, that's nothing, I've had headaches all my life.  But my headaches seemed to have no etiology.  I would wake up about 2AM and feel a slight pain at the base of my head/neck area.  It would develop into a debilitation headache, that would almost incapacitate me for the whole day. The next day typically I would be OK.  The headache would seem to travel around my head, from one side to another, front to back, etc.  I COULD NOT wear ANYTHING around my neck, even a t-shirt was too much.  I could not lay down, I had to sit up in a chair and it felt like I wanted to raise my head off of my shoulders to get relief.  Aspirin allowed me to maintain some semblance of sanity, but (short of overdosing) I would take aspirin and others like Motrin, etc. throughout the day. Again, the next day, I was all chipper.  Sometimes, these headaches would come on during the day, and I would have to leave work. At the first I was an industrial electrician. Pain and eletrical work do not go together, whether from getting shocked or from headaches that take away your concentration.  I finally went to get help from the medical profession. They checked me out, they did a cat scan (wow, they found out that I did indeed have a brain), but nothing showed up. They sent me to a dentist who thought my TMJ was causing the problem and ground some of my teeth and gave me an insert for sleeping. Nothing helped, and they only gave me stronger medicine like Fentanyl. It was determined that I did not have the classic symptoms of Migrain headaches, but they couldn't explain what the cause was.

I suffered for nearly 14 years. Oh, by the way, these headaches would come on maybe once or twice a month. Nothing regular though. These headaches followed me from Pennsyvania to Nebraska to Germany to Texas. In Texas, where I remain, they seemed to occur a little more often.

Finally a friend asked me a question, and my answer opened the door to enlightenment and relief.

TOMORROW, I will share the answer with you all, but please let me know what the answer might be. I know that I have helped a number of people that have had the same symptoms.

Let me know what you think the answer is.

Adieu, Ciao, Aufwiedersehen, Sayonnara, till tomorrow.

So, what was or is causing the headaches?  Several many years ago I started having migraine headaches and all that goes with migraines, throwing up, etc.  I don't know why I didn't go to the doctor about it but I didn't. It is important to have things like that checked out.  Anyway, haven't had one in years.

It was so simple that I couldn't believe it. A friend of mine asked me if I drank water.  I said 'yes, when I'm thirsty'. And she said, 'No, do you DRINK water', meaning do I drink enough water to stay hydrated.  I said no and she said, well, that is your problem.

I still don't drink enough water, and still wake up sometimes in the early AM, but NOW I know that if I get up and drink about a quart of water, that the headache will NOT develop and I will be alright. Sometimes I'm too lazy to get up and then I suffer the rest of the day for that laziness.

Surprised?   Geez, I couldn't believe that I suffered so many years for that reason and no doctor had a clue or gave me a hint of that.

Hope this helps, or at least that you might pass it on to someone with those symptoms.

Never hurts to drink water, wellllllll, clean water that is.

Thanks for the question.

It is very important to drink enough water but too much can also be bad for you.
