Painting the Kitchen for Resale

By
Home Stager with Shaping Spaces Group

2009 is all bout embracing earth-inspired tones and elements. "Lots of colors are personally pleasing, like jeweled tones and dark chocolate brown walls," but these strong colors might not be for everyone, It can be a real barrier to sales.

Repaint the dark and dramatic walls in neutrals, muted earth tones, sandy taupes, grassy and yellow greens, light aqua is even hot this year.... A small kitchen can benefit from soft tones to make it feel larger, then use the bold colors as your accents to spark excitement.

It's all about capturing the buyers eye, and right now people are on edge and needing to feel more grounded, be more resourceful and Eco friendly. The new earth tones inspire that relaxed zen feeling.

Check out Sherwin Willimas new color palettes for 2009...

Good advice!     I have a house for sale with a "hot red" feature wall.    I think a lot of potential buyers find this intimidating.    So far, seller has resisted the suggestion of being more neutral.

Thanks Michelle, I'm trying to make time to be more active on here. It takes some time getting used to.

Words of wisdom Tanya. I once had a client with a multi-coloured dining room. One wall was navy, one was   terracotta and the other two were taupe! I also see a lot of burgundy accent walls.

Tanya,

Great advise for home sellers!  Neutralizing the homes space by painting it a neutral color palette, will allow for it to appeal to a wider group of buyers!

I always tell my clients that I would have to repaint my own accent walls if I put my home up for sale. It makes it less personal when they realize it isn't about their taste ... it's about broad appeal.

Colour can really influence people and their mood and make or break a sale... it took a long time for me to move away from classic 'safe" beige ... to bolder browns, golds, greens ... I could never go back!

Liz, I so agree with the "safe" beige and how color influences mood. warmer tones are great when there used properly as an accent.

Hey Tanya, I tend to love the bold jewelled colours and are very drawn to them...I know this isn't the case for all, so I love the fact that if you stay with "safe" neutrals, you can bring your colours in through soft furnishings. Thanks for sharing the colour pallet!
