The movie industry has made its latest Michigan stop in these two cities shooting a upcoming Hilary Swank movie based on a Betty Anne Waters story. The yet untitled movie was shooting scenes this past week in and around Dexter High School, St. Joseph's Church and other points of interest in town.

The next stop for filming will be in Chelsea several streets are slated to be closed during filming including Garfield, Lincoln, South Main and Grant Streets. It will be a delight to see our towns on the big screen when the film is released.

Michigan began offering tax incentives to lure film makers away from Hollywood a couple years ago and has had some success with it. The popular Clint Eastwood film Gran Torino was shot in the Detroit area after original being set for shooting in Minnesota but moved to save money.

The Governor recently announced the Development of a $54 million film studio in the Pontiac area slated to be built ironically in a former G.M. Facility. The studio will eventually create 3600 jobs for the state of Michigan. This will be the 1st of hopefully more studios having a brick and mortar home and not just temporary facilities in the state. This will never replace the heyday of the automobile in Michigan, but at least it is some good news for our future and we could use that!
