City of Pelham AL Provides Free Prescription Drug Discount Cards To Residents

Real Estate Agent with RE/MAX Advantage South

The City of Pelham is providing FREE prescription drug discount cards to Pelham residents.  The cards are available through a program sponsored by the National League of Cities.  The discount card program is administered by CVS Caremark, with about 25 pharmacies around the city participating, along with over 59,000 pharmacies across the United States.

These discount cards are not a form of insurance, and there are no restrictions based on existing health coverage.  All ages and income levels are eligible to receive this discount, with average savings of 20 percent off the retail price of commonly prescribed drugs.  The card can be used whenever prescriptions are not covered by insurance.

To get a card, stop by one of the participating pharmacies or Pelham City Hall, the Pelham Library, Pelham Senior Center or Pelham Municipal Court.  There are no enrollment forms and no membership fees.

To find out more you can call 1-888-620-1749 or visit the CVS Caremark website.

Ann - I am glad to see organizations, companies, and municipalities get involved in this important issue.  Although I am not a big fan of Walmart, I salute their $4.00 generic drug program, which has over 300 prescription medications listed.  In fact, they will give you a 3 month supply for just $10.00.  Target, Walgreen's, and others also have discount programs that are helping as well.

Interesting. I wonder if any San Diego County cities and pharmacies are participating. I'll have to do a little research I guess since nothing has been in the paper or on the news here.

Very nice!!  Is there a way to compare this card's drug prices with the prices that I'm getting with the prescription discount card that I bought at  I pay $4.50 a month for that card.

Eileen, I think the best way to investigate this would be to call 1-888-620-1749.  If you are not able to get answers to your questions, give me a call and I will see what I can do to help. :)
