Remember in school when we used to strive to be at the top of the class? Well, some of us did. Some of us just wanted to graduate and get it over with, right? Some of us wanted to be in the National Honor Society, the Top 1% of the class. Some of us wanted to be voted Most Likely to Succeed. Or maybe it was Prom Queen and King.
Then came careers. Who here never had a thought to be "The first person to..." (you fill in the blank). I wanted to be a chemical researcher and win the Nobel Peace Prize for finding the cure for the common cold. Someone else out there wanted to be the first person to figure out how to make a car run on water instead of gas. Hillary Clinton wanted to be the first woman elected to the Democratic Convention. Barack Obama wanted to be the first African-American president of the United States.
Being in the Top has it's perks, doesn't it? You do realize though that being in the Top means being in the minority? Are you willing to lead instead of follow? Are you willing to break ranks and chart your own course instead of going with everyone else's flow?
Today I read a post by Clint Miller of Real Estate Client Referrals wherein he discussed all sorts of very interesting statistics based on a survey conducted by the California Association of Realtors. This was a technology survey and some of the results were shocking (at least they were to me).
Did you know that ONLY 7% of agents that responded to the survey say that they participate in an online group/forum or post blogs! Only 7%. Are you one of the 7%? Are you in the minority of real estate agents who actually utilize technology to further their business? Are you in the minority of real estate agents who shows 'em what you've got by blogging regularly about your market and your community and your niche?
If you're not, if you are in the 93% of agents who don't participate in social media marketing or blogging, I DARE you to get out of the majority. I double dog dare you!
