The end of the world as we know it

Real Estate Sales Representative with Weichert Realtors & DCC Marketing/Cyprus

After nearly 3 years of living in Cyprus, an island known for great weather and a slow-paced, easy going lifestyle it was very hard to finally make the decision to come back to Virginia. However, it has become very apparent that the economy in Cyprus was following the same path as the US and the rest of the world. The real estate market is at a a stand still and the banks are not lending, not even to very qualified clients. Despite finding buyers for a number of properties in the past six months, I have not had any sales. I will continue to run my two property websites Propertyofcyprus.com and cyprus101.com with the help of my new partner who is also trying her best to close a sale but times are tough over here.  Hopefully, continuing our work here will help us create a niche with the international property prospects who may want to move to the D.C. or Northern VA area.

Now, are we going back to the America we left? The way the news is reported on this side of the globe, the answer is a big NO! NO WAY!! Absolutely Not!!! A bit scary? Yes, but I think that would be the case in any significant change. I will be going back to the Northern Virginia area where I will get my real estate license and begin working as an agent. I hope the timing will perfectly coincide with the return of the housing market. I know I am being very optimistic and that I may be a few months off, but I won't get sales or produce being negative! While being positive, we will get so much more for our money property wise when we buy our new home hopefully in Fairfax County, Chantilly area. The property that we sold for $330,000 three years ago was luckily sold just before the decline in the real estate market. Those homes now go for $265,000!!

After being away, I learned a lot about what makes America great, but most of all I learned how far ahead of the world (most of it) we really are. One of the first things someone said to me when I came here was "It's no longer when America sneezes the world catches a cold" which I had no reply to since I never heard that said before I left the U.S. Now I believe they were right, maybe they will not catch a cold but they will catch everything else.
