I've heard for some time now about the importance of not stealing clip art on the net for your blog. As luck would have it, I'm not a cleptomaniac. No problem for me. So, I did what every other blogger does - I write a great blog post, I go to Google and search "Free clip art ________". In the blank I would put whatever I'm looking for...House, Four-leaf clover, money, girl, you get the idea. And boom - a page of a handful of free clipart sources you could cut and paste into your blog. Free.
Or I'd go to Flickr. Every now and then I'd get crazy and go to Image Chef...they have fun stuff. But no real system in place for attractive graphics. And if you're telling yourself that graphics in blogs don't matter, then it's like saying that Blog headlines aren't important either. They're important.
I have never been crazy about my methodology so far. When possible, I like to include photos that I have actually taken, but again isn't very realistic for me. I'm lucky to remember to bring my camera to my own kids birthday parties. Mother of the year, right?
So today was the day that I said ENOUGH IS ENOUGH with this. I need systems in my life that work. And it might have to cost me....but only $34.95 for 12 months of access to $7.8 million images at iClipArt.com. That's less than $6 per month. I could swing it - even in this economy.
What I would say to my fellow bloggers who are scavenging for good clipart to throw in their blogs to make them the masterpieces they are - go to iClipArt.com and be done with it. Cross that item off your list and move on things that are worth being worried about.
