Andy DeShon is a rising star of innovation by not taking "no" for an answer, while others complained of fuel prices and global warming, Andy did something about it.
Andy became interested in electric motors when his uncle's dealership sold an electric lawnmower manufactured by General Electric. In the 1980's he began working with battery-powered forklifts in his warehouse job. In 1998, he started doing serious research and development work on his electric motors and electronics.
You can talk on the phone while you're mowing the yard, as there is no roar of the engine, any puff or exhaust. Even when the mower blade engages the lawn tractor is relatively quiet.
Andy Deshon has been tinkering with the electric tractor innovation for 20 years and has secured patents and exclusive marketing rights for his work
The charging pack for a Kubota electric tractor is the lifeline that makes Andy DeShon's creations work. It takes approximately six hours to recharge the battery, at the cost of approximately 50 cents and the battery powers all the accessories. The retrofitted tractor has the same horsepower and speed as the original.
With 14 prototypes already built, Andy has a licensing agreement with Kubota to equip its lawn tractors with the electric motors. Mr. Deshon hopes to produce 1,000 units in St Joseph the first year with his partnership with Kubota.
Mr. Deshon's tractors will be shipped to California, Colorado and Texas, where consumers are demanding alternatives with fewer emissions.
