Are You A "Stageaholic?"

By
Home Stager with Simplicity Home Design, Thousand Oaks, CA

My name is Reece and I am a "Stageaholic."

I have to admit that it was confirmed by outside sources that I am truly a "Stageaholic!"  This was confirmed by my new husband this past week when we went on a cruise for our honeymoon.  And if he was here, he could tell you many a story, about me moving things around constantly wherever we go, so that it betters the situation or the purpose of the room.

As we entered our room I immediately began to scope out the pros and cons of the decorating, as well as the furniture placement.  I kept these thoughts to myself at first, but as we began to unpack, I couldn't help but think of better places to move the furniture so that it would make our stay more comfortable.  As I continued to unpack I kept stopping what I was doing and would start to rearrange the room!  The smaller table would look so much better over there and would allow us to walk out to the balcony without having to maneuver around the bed and the desk.

My husband just stopped unpacking and had to laugh.  He joked about how we couldn't even get away from work on our honeymoon and asked me if this was going to be the way it's going to be the rest of our lives.  I thought for a moment and then reluctantly answered "yes" and giggled as I realized how crazy this lifestyle could be for someone that hates change or can't remember where he put his slippers.  But then he realized he agreed and before I knew it he was out on the balcony rearranging the furniture and we both had a good chuckle.

It's funny...once you realize you love to stage, and how much better things can be when you do change things around, you can't help but be a "Stageaholic."  It gets in your blood!  I just have to remember now that when he starts looking for where we keep our car keys I need to be empathetic as I've changed them twice since last week.

When was your "Aha!" moment?  When did you or your spouse realize that you are a true "Stageaholic?"

I realize stagaholicism is in everything I do.  I have moved the furniture at the Realtors office, the waiting area at my bank and so on and so on.   I must be a stagaholic since doing all of those things and not getting paid!  Do we need help?  I say no!  Stage on...stage on!

Close but I'm a rearrangeaholic.  My husband use to say that if he ever went blind that he might not find a place to sit down...and my students (retired elem. tchr) never knew what new room arrangement they'd find each Monday..it is an addiction!   I found the solution, downsize to a place so small that you can't move your own furniture and you have to stage/redesign for clients to calm the addiction.  Some call it a job or career???

My poor husband comes home form work and never knows what will be missing and how long it will be gone!

My aha moment was when I was sitting in church one Sunday listening to this beautiful song and started thinking that the great looking palm trees behind the girl singing would look great in the house I was doing the next week! I need HELP!!!!

Hello everyone.....I'm one of the Husbands.....I see you all write about....and yes....every bit of it is true....I come home late and night....and I trip and fall on things that were not their when I left. Or I try to drop my keys or clothes down on an object that I could of sworn was there after breakfast......We have a garage full of stuff, just waiting to go out to the next home. I've given up on decorating our home, because the objects seem to dissapear quickly. It's kinda like living with a kleptomaniac......she's always taking something from our house. Oye

Hi Reece and gang!

Yup...I'm a stagaholic as well!

I go over to friends and families for gatherings, and start moving furniture and/or decor. But, they love it,and so do I. So, no point in quitting....I'll just go thru withdrawal , get the sweats and shakey...and for what?

Everyone is happy this way :)

I happily admit that I am a stagaholic too.

My 4 car garage has become a 2 car garage and a furniture pile. Sometimes I don't even know what's in there until I go dig. I also am unable to make a purchase before considering: how heavy is it?...will it damage easily?...how versatile is it?

Staging allows me to leave my own house alone. Which is a good thing.

My name is Karen -- I too am a Stageaholic.  My husband 1st noticed this problem when he came home one day, went to the living room to get away from the kids & there was no place to sit.  He is now to the piint where he tells me as long as the pool-table and his favorite chair never leave, he is fine with it.   My 5 year old asked me just today when she could go with me to "sell a house."  She has rearranged her dollhouse, telling me its Staged.  What have I done to my family?

My cars have not seen the shade of the garage in months.  Which is good I guess because everyine notices the signs on my cars LOL.

PS:  My husband is laughing & agreeing with this topic.

This reminded me of a weekend trip we took a couple of years ago.  We stayed in a suite at a lovely resort and the food was terrific.  However, the furniture layout was awful in the living area.  It didn't take me long to completely reorganize the space to take advantage of the gas fireplace and the view out the french doors.  Hadn't even heard of staging back then ... thank goodness my husband was totally absorbed in a Red Sox game or he would have questioned my sanity.

I'm so glad to hear that I'm not the only one who has been caught watching the furniture/decor/props on a tv show or a movie vs. the storyline and actors! Maybe we should start a "stagaholic's anonymous" support group....
