My License Has Changed!!!

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

Well, it's official, my license now says Broker.

The classes were attended, the tests studied for, the math was mastered and the tests were passed.

The Broker designation can now be added to my business cards, along with ABR, ASR, GRI, CRS   and ReLo Specialist.

I really enjoyed re-visiting the subject material and I really enjoyed the classes, after all, my degree is in education. Whether or not South Carolina becomes an all broker state still remains unknown, at this time. Personally, I would like to see reaching agent status become more difficult. Hopefully, this would weed out a lot of the problems that we have all encountered, whether we are agents, clients or customers.

I would like to see this profession branded with the same respect that doctors and other educated professionals enjoy. What do you think?

Was the Broker Test much different than the Real Estate test?  I've been thinking about taking it and I thought it might not be a bad idea to ask you since you just been through it.  Congradulations, and I hope your new Broker Status enriches your spirit and your bank account.  Rob Basichis - Realtor, Las Vegas Nevada.  I deal in Property Problems like Loan Modifications and trying to keep people from loosing their home to foreclosure.  Thanks for reading my comment.

I have a degree in education and I thought it was one of the hardest test I ever took. I was fortunate and passed the first time. The language of the questions is difficult. I really had to study. And yes, I am glad that it is over with.

Dear Sandy,

Congratulations! I earned my broker's license many years ago.  While I was taking some broker classes, I was offered a position teaching Principles Of Real Estate. I had to have the license! I finished off those classes ASAP.

It is interesting. The public usually doesn't understand the alphabet soup of designations that we have, but they are unpressed by my being an associate broker (that is was Virginia calls anyone with a broker's license who is not the principal broker).

I have even heard my clients brag to friends, " My agent is an Associate Broker!"

Sandy,

Congratulations - our state changed the way a broker's exam is given - not multiple choice per se - more scenario type questions and it is much harder to pass.  I think new brokers should be required to have business managemnt skills that are not taught.

Barbara: I think that it makes a difference to have the broker designation. Also, I don't think that the general public knows what those other designations mean.

Julie: I would like to see real estate agent have a 4 years college degree. We are held to such high standards ~ like doctors and lawyers, I would like to see our agents hold college degrees.

Sandy, congratulations on passing the Broker's exam. I think it does make a difference in the consumers eyes to have a Broker's license. My State recently raised the minimum educational requirements for getting a real estate license  - a high school diploma. Our Appraisers now require a four year degree. I think the minimum requirements for real estate agents will follow suit one day.

Michael: You and I are on exactly the same page on this one! I would like to see the bar set much higher. We, as agents are held to such high standards, I think the requirements should change. Thanks for your comments.

Congratulations, Sandy!  I passed mine last Spring and it was a huge relief. We had to take  a significant number of classroom hours...that alone was motivation to pass!!

I agree with you that it should be challenging to become an agent. What is wrong with working hard for something that you want?

Have fun getting your new business cards :).
