Things that are bad for your health

Safeguard Inspection Services, Inc.

Mr and Mrs. Homeowner wanted to do some wood working out in thier attached garage during the winter.  But it was cold out there and they needed a low cost heat source.

Hmmmm,  now lets see,

Thinking, thinking, thinking

Got it, and it'll be almost free.

This residence was unoccumpied at the time of this inspection.  I also didn't see a CO detector in this home. Makes ya kinda wonder what some folks are thinking about doesn't it?  At least I hope they're still around to think about how lucky they were to not of died from CO poisoning.

What have y'all seen in your inspections that have been bad for your health?

Hi Dj...are you sure that was not just an unattached flue vent.?

Hey Bob,

Great question you bring up, but there wasn't a trace of evidence pointing in that direction and the storage shelving under the vent had been there for a very long time.  The sad thing about it is that there was indeed exhaust gas's from the furnace coming out of that pipe and into the garage and no automatic door closure was installed on the house entry door that's located on the other side of the chimney chase.

Don't you wonder sometime when your going thru a house as to what the owners were thinking when they do some of the things that we see.

If that is really just venting into the house, that is out of control!  What?

Did one last year that had an old Scotsman Icemaker, the kind that just had a tube to drain the water.  Rather than run the tube into a drain of some type, the owners just drilled a hole under the unit and stuck the tube through into the crawl.  When I opened the crawl, the mold was so thick I wouldn't enter.  Sellers agent has since told me it was over $20k to remove the mold and replace all the rotted wood.

These people were insane to even consider doing something like that. They must have not valued their life very much. Ummmmmm maybe they just wanted to get high.

If it was just for a buzz, well, That's why God introduced bourbon to the great people of KY, and they generously shared with the rest of us.
