I have been inspired, today, by Loreena Yoe's blog today entitled "Today is 3-16. A Post About Nothing" and reminded of my favorite 3-16 scripture: John 3:16, "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten son..."
Years ago I saw this scripture paraphrased like this: "The Greatest Evidence of Love Is A Sacrifice". Since that day, this has been my favorite quote (author unknown) and I began to truly understand the depth of my passions, and if, in fact, they were my passions.
I love decorating and have been decorating since I was a child. Playhouses and my room was the limit then. As an adult, it was decorating rooms and homes for family, friends, co-workers, even some churches. But never, ever professionally. I even studied some decorating courses at the Fashion Insitute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles and then came home to Houston, to take a few other interior design courses at San Jacinto College. However I pursued careers in training and development, human resources, and retail management.
But it was this day, March 16, 2009 that I made the real sacrifice in evidence of my passion. I resigned from my full time retail management job, which was paying well, to 1) Pursue my staging career full-time and 2) to accept a new job as a custom decorating consultant for a retail company.
Giving up the pay, the benefits, tenure, and some good friends was the sacrifice. But being offered a position that will undergird my staging business, eventhough the professional experience was a weakness, was, in my opinion, to incredible to pass up.
Think about your passion and analyze if the sacrifiices you have made are evident of the love you have for what you do. And, not only that...
But the sacrifices we make for our spouses and kids, our faith and religions, and our customers and clients are all evidence of love.
What did you give up today? What sacrifice have you made today as evidence of your passion?
