AIG

What do you think about those employees at AIG? Were you surprised to learn that our government officials. apparently from Obama on down, knew about the bonuses that were paid out? Do you object to that? I don't for the simple reason this money was due according to contracts engaged in by the owners and the employees.

Now you want to keep in mind that the children in charge in DC did not put the proper wording in place prior to sending out the money. This from those who screamed "more regulation is needed". This is what happens when you put a bureaucrat in charge. Commissar Obama is a bureaucrat. He and the children in the playpen are way, way over their heads in this matter and opinion from his leftist supporters is starting to disappear. If he is allowed to mess with contractual law imagine what will happen to the profession of Realtor and all those occupations and professions that go along with ours.

You might ask what can we do. I would suggest you look for or start a tea party in your community. This can be held in your town or you can assist and organize one for your state capital. You will want to get the phone numbers, local and DC. of you representatives at the state and federal level and make sure that you bother them. Keep in mind that our government. particularly at the federal level, is out of control and see themselves as little pashas. Term limits of one term should be looked at and let me note that you just might want to recheck those two documents, favorites of mine, The Declaration of Independence and the Constitution with the Bill of Rights and the Amendments.

Term limits would be a plus, and voting out the usless incumbents a bigger plus.

Interesting point of view. I think drastic times require drastic measures and although it hasn't been a perfect first 50 days, a lot is getting done considering the mess he inherited. Personally I wish they would post on a website the names of every executive that is getting a bonus and their home address. Also I think that they should all sit in front of congress and tell congress and the American people individually why they think they deserve their bonus. If they are convincing enough, give them the bonus, if not, then don't.

Again let me remind all that according to what is being reported, the government knew about these bonuses and they were contractual. If we allow the government to step in, and this includes the idea of having judges redoing financial contracts, think what it will do to our business called real estate. Contracts are a mess already do we really need to have the Feds make it more complicated.

As to term limits, count me in on that move. One term in either the House or Senate and then you are out. Along with that the first order of business will be to get rid of the idiotic, useless, and inane legislation we now have on the books. We also need to disallow all mandating of obligations from one level of government to another.

First of all you are out of line being disrespectful towards PRESIDENT OBAMA.  You need to address the PRESIDENT of the United States as the PRESIDENT.  As far as the AIG issue, I didn't hear you making all of these ridiculous aaccusation's while President Bush was in office.  President Obama inherited all of this bureaucratic mess.  And lets not talk about contractual law.  That's all President Bush and his predecessors ever done, change contractual laws.  This is not new.  That is why this country is in such a shamble.  I have a suggestion: Stop playing the blaming game and get off of your high horse and come up with some solutions to help our President and this country pull through this mess.  We can start by finding out how we as professionals in the real estate industry can take advantage of programs designed to rebuild our communities.  We can propose and create programs that require funds being provided through the stimulus package instead of whining like a bunch of babies who didn't have first dibbs on a cookie out of the cookie jar.  We all have a responsibility to be accountable for our actions and we will all be judge by them.  Stop insulting your country and legislation.  We have a long way to go before we will have a perfect society, I doubt if any of us will see it in this life time.  The key is to become solution oriented and only towards positive movements. And if you really want to know with what is going on with all of this Stimulus money, then read.  It is an open book.  Read first, get the facts, then give an opinion.

Ms. Adams

I cannot nor will I refer to Barack Obama as President. There have been those on the left who referred to President Bush as Hitler and said he should be assassinated. I presume you stepped up and protested that matter.

As to a solution I take great pleasure in telling you what I would do. I would take this nation back to capitalism the only economic system suitable for our representative republic form of government. I would start with the lowering or elimination of taxes. Move to a fair tax or a national sales tax and eliminate the federal income tax. I would phase out social security and the tax that goes with it. It is a huge Ponzi scheme. I would eliminate the corporate tax and the estate tax. I would reduce the capital gains tax to 10%.

Then I would cut spending. I would start with the elimination of programs such as the National Endowment of the Arts. I would eliminate the energy department, a department that has been with us since the Carter administration, has spent billions of dollars and has not solved our energy problem. I would get rid of public housing programs and I would do away with the Department of Education where we have spent trillions and have dumber kids. I would get rid of government regulations on drugs and the making of items like cars. I would do all of this in order to attract industry back into our nation. And it will work. Obama's plan, socialism, will cause more industries to leave the US. I would also go to zero base budgeting on the Federal Budget every year and I would work for a one term limit for Congress and the president. Make them leave and work under the laws they pass.

As to your comment on contract law, it took my breath away. You do realize that if contracutal law disappears we can all pack our bags, turn out the lights and leave.

Wy do you want money from the stimulus package? Are you looking to stop handouts and make people responsible for themselves or do you want to keep people tied to the apron strings of the likes of Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi? I do not want my money to go for a stimulus package or to assist someone who refuses to help themselves. We do not need anymore money for community projects. If you want to build a park get the private sector or citizens in the community to kick in to help.

As for reading, let me note that I am a retired history and government teacher. I hold a BA in history from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA and an ME from the Commonwealth of PA after completing my graduate work at East Stroudsburg Graduate School. Currently I am reading "The 5000 year Leap", "New Deal or Raw Deal" and "The Art of War" by Sun Tzu--it is actually a re-reading in a different edition by a better author. I don't whine and I do not put my hand into someone else's cookie jar.
