Spring has officially arrived when Nathan's Dairy Bar in Manassas Virginia opens for the season.
Last weekend my husband and I did our normal routine. We typically head up to Manassas Virginia for a quick bite to eat at Tony's Pizza on the weekends. If you've never tried Tony's you are missing one of the best kept secrets in the entire area. Walk into Tony's and the aroma of Pizza and Pasta and wonderful fix-ins waft in the air. You place your order at the counter and within minutes your number is called. Don't overlook the Steak-n-Cheese Subs....YUM! We have never a bad meal at Tony's. Check out the menu. Acutally it's one place we can count on over and over again to be perfect everytime. No frills, no table clothes, just great food. If you see a line...not to worry it's always moves fast.
Well after dinner we took a chance to see if Nathans Dairy Bar was open yet and sure enough it was! The line was at least 40 people long.You see Nathan's Dairy Bar is the best kept secret in Prince William County Virginia. It's located just down the street from Tony's Pizza so it makes going to Manassas for a bite to eat a real treat.
Try it one night, just take a drive up the parkway from Lake Ridge Virginia and head toward Manassas. Turn right on Liberia Avenue, and as you cross over Rt.28 get in the left lane and turn left on Mathis Avenue. Your going to pass a putt putt place and then you will see Nathan's Dairy Bar. Just keep on going about a quarter mile and look for Tony's Pizza in the shopping center on your right.
Head there to eat first and then return to Nathan's for Ice Cream. It's tradition! Most likely half the people you see in Tony's will soon be at Nathans a few minutes later.
Nathan's is a nostalgic looking Ice Cream Bar with music playing outside. It's very inexpensive and the lines move fast. Small cones start at $2.15 and the largest is $3.40. As you will see below they have lots of tables and benches and they allow you to bring your dogs! They even serve pup cups ( topped with a milk bone of course!)Imagine for only $1.40 how much fun your dog will have going with you every weekend to get ice cream. Sometimes that's half the fun watching all the different dogs.
There are so many great flavors to choose from. As for me I prefer Vanilla, however my husband Bill loves to try all the new soft serve flavors. He's very partial to Pumpkin. One that you won't want to miss in summer is Black Rasberry it is devine! Each week all through summer they feature one or two flavors.
Now don't forget, if you love Nathans, keep in mind Dave the owner has Nathan Jr. This is the mobile van for community events and corporate functions. "Gosh can you think of a better way to boost moral on a hot summer day than having Dave pull up at your office and your tell the staff...Ice Cream is on me! Try it.. you might put a smile on many of your employee's faces."
I hope today I've shared with you something new. The next time your looking for a new place to go to dinner or lunch just head on up to Manassas. Tony's Pizza and Nathan's Dairy Bar will surely hit the spot!
