I need some motivational advice

It's now the first day of spring and we have fallen into in a slump.  We have been avoiding work lately.  I guess we're not really trying to, but for some reason it is happening.  Yesterday, instead of prospecting, we went fishing and enjoyed a cookout at the park.  I will tell you that we have been also sleeping in later than usual and are starting to feel guilty for it.

My question for all of the other self-employed professionals on here is:

How do you keep yourself motivated and disciplined enough to consistently work every day?

I would also like some fresh takes on prospecting if possible.

We appreciate all of your input and advice.

Sounds like you had a great day.   Instead of feeling guilty about it, enjoy it!

I've been putting in 7 days a week, not because I want to, but because I have bit on more than I can chew.  Deals taking a lot longer to transact mean less and less discretionary time for me.

I just make it a point to be there when the clients need me.  I don't prospect anymore and I need to let go of some of my leads.  I just feel like no one else can take care of them as well as I can.  I always go the extra mile and deliver more than expected, typically before the expected date.  Because of that, clients refer other clients to me and so it goes...  and I have NO time.

I guess if you just focus on really listening to what your clients need, putting yourself in their shoes, and constantly asking yourself:  "If I was this person, what would I want my agent to do for me?"  I never think about the money and I treat someone buying an $80K property the same as someone buying a $800K property.   Same care, same diligence.

If you just work hard to service each client well, the business will take care of itself and you'll be overwhelmed by the sheer number of referrals from satisfied clients.  Then...  you'll need to figure out how to take a vacation.

So instead of focusing on new leads, go over your current client list and figure out what else they may need.  Maybe you can help them solve a problem.  Maybe they have friends and relative who need your services.  The very worst that can happen if you do that, is that you will have clients who will be very happy with you and brag about you and your services to their friends and relatives...

Good luck!  Remember, focus on the quality of your services to each and every client and go the extra mile!  The rest will take care of itself.

Just do it! the beautiful part of this job is the freedom it affords you, but you can die by that same sword.  So feel greatful you had a beautiful fishing trip, then don't worry,  just go back to work now so you can have more fishing trips...now why are you reading this?  go make some calls!  just do it.

Joe,

Sometimes I find myself getting in a slump as well.  I have noticed this happens to me when I am getting burnt out!  Its ok to take a day off occassionally as long as that is going to give you motivation to work harder.  You have to work hard to play hard then when you do have lesiure you don't feel quilty because you deserve it.

It is difficult to keep driving on, but just think, if you don't your competition is! Prospecting should be something you enjoy. It doesn't have to be cold calling or knocking on doors.  Become more involved in things that you like and network.  If you like to fish, network at a fishing tournament find out if you can sponsor a team or advertise there and bring waterfront listings for potential clients.  Cooking out-great invite all your past clients and ask them to bring friends and family and ask for referrals!

Good luck to you.  Everyone has their own personal motivation, you just have to keen in on yours! You can do it!! We all have faith.
