If you're sick of what is offered at the local movie theater and you're looking for something fun and diffferent check this out - if you like unique films from all kinds of genres. The independent films come from all kinds of styles including animation, documentary, experimental and narrative. The films vary in length from one minute to full feature length.   This year, there is a documentary about people who customize their cars called Automorphosis, that will definitely be on my watch list since I love cars. Some of the other subject highlights of films this year include sampling and remixing taking material from a existing film and making something new of it and an evening dedicated to animator Don Hertzfeldt, the animator behind the film Rejected. Some screenings will include panel discussions, video installlations and lectures. There will also be family friendly programs for kids and adults so don't hesitate bringing the kids. Over 2600 films from 40 countries were submitted for the festival with 120 actually making the cut. The festival runs from March 24th through March 29th, 2009.  To find out more information about the event go to www.aafilmfest.org

Chris,

What a cool topic. The selection on TV and most big screen movies is pretty limited as far as quality. It will be interesting to see what the festival has to offer. It will be a great segue into the spring season for us Michiganders!
