Thumbs' UP . . . in Cook County (Illinois)

By
Industry Observer with RETIRED / State License is Inactive Inactive License Oregon

Has anyone heard this news:  Home sellers will be required to use their right thumbprint to sign off on the final documents when they close on their home, effective June 1, 1984 2009.

Cook County is in Illinois, and I'm wondering about the who, what, where, when and why (and how).

Who: Someone (the voters?) authorized this.

What: were they thinking?

Where: are their escrow officers (checking ID, notary publics, etc.)

When: will this thumprint/fingerprint scanner sweep the Nation?

Why: is this happening?  Are thefts of property so rampant in Cook's County that they must implement this "Big Brother" technique?

What: are they smoking (and HOW can I get some of that?!?)

I know, I asked "what" twice.

But seriously folks, your professional opinions are appreciated.

Hewlett-Packard offers fingerprint scanners.  I say they cut to the chase and implement my latest inventions:

  • Voice Activated Recordations
  • Eye Retina Recognition Recordations

Hey Hewlett-Packard . . . suck on this:

"Deed, record"  . . . Voice activated recordations (VAR)

Blink, blink, stare  . . . eye retina recognition recordations (ERRR)

Just get it OVER with, and chip me already!!  GEEZ

Carla, I have no problem with this, My picture is posted in the Post Office:)) If there are criminals out there they should not be in this bussiness. California has been doing criminal background checks since it was not even trendy for Real Estate agents....so why not Sellers, we might catch a few criminals...Real Estate has been the Police Enforcer for the Federal Government and the State so what is one more assignment issue. (quick refresher: cash funds have to be declared, water conservation has to be enforced... and on and on)

Carla - I heard something about this earlier in the week. What happens if the seller is already living in another state and the docs. are mailed away for them to sign. This could be quite interesting.

Carla - I live in Cook County - this is NOT a forcible practiceWe DO NOT GO AROUND TAKING FINGERPRINTS- OK??  The guy reporting this blew everything out of context for the purpose of emphasizing a jab. Political jargon honey!   This was a single incident of a notary using a thumbprint for identifying purposes on a recorded sale.  Some banks do this prior to cashing large checks.

... on a Biblical note... this sounds like the beginning of taking the "mark"

Hi Endre -- Yes, I concur.  As I said, just "chip me" already and get it over with :-)  Nice to hear from you, hope all's well down in BH.

Robert -- Thanks for your comment.  I actually like to read questions that I never would have thought about, and yours was a very good "what if"

Diane -- Now isn't that strange . . . I didn't know you were in Cook County when I blogged, and we had such a nice exchange prior to.  I'm glad you are 'in the know' there.  I thought about your Biblical note too, when I first read the story.  It's happening . . .

Sheldon -- So, you like my new technology voice activation recording methods that Hewlett-Packard will think of next :-)  Great smile BTW

Carla, I have heard of many companies that are shifting to fingerprinting for just about everything. My sister works for a company here locally that makes the fingerprint chips for cell phones. You need a fingerprint to unlock the phone. It's the wave of the future, and whether we like it or not I think it's here to stay.
