Ok it is not earth shattering news, but soldiers serving overseas will not be able to access some of their old links to You Tube, MySpace and more. These popular websites are being blocked by the Defense Department because of loss of network bandwith and inherent security challenges.
My thoughts of all this is that it is more likely because of some of the material that soldiers have posted there, rather than bandwith problems. We may not be seeing any more vehicles being blown up by our troops in the near future. True, downloading from these sites could lead to security issues with the networks. The Defense Department was quick to add that Soldiers could still access these sites through their own computers and other networks. The restriction applies only to Defense Department computers and networks. Well, that is pretty much all that is available to the guys and gals in Iraq and Afghanistan. What lame high ranking Army officials came up with this cock and bull story.
