Recently my wife and I along with a group of Exit Realtors had the pleasure of working on a Habitat for Humanity build in Newark, New Jersey. It was the second day of the build so when I tell you it was "raw" it really was. The foundation was laid, the back wall and two side walls of the house were up. We entered the house by climbing a ladder that had been propped up against the foundation. During our time there we were able to construct the front wall and some interior walls before it began raining. We were supervised by two very knowledgeable men from Habitat for Humanity. I could not believe that I was able to raise a wall and begin to build a house. The heaviest thing I lift in real estate is a pen. Usually a hammer in my hand means something is going to be broken. However with the instructions from the site supervisors I was able to help build a few walls.
I will tell eveyone that it was a WONDERFUL feeling knowing that we were helping someone attain their dream. Now we do help people attain their dream when we help them sell or buy a home, but it does not compare to the feeling you get when you are part of building the house.
Everyone from Habitat for Humanity was very nice to work with, we were given a terrific lunch but most of all an awesome experience.
I urge everyone if you have not volunteered your time to work on a Habitat Build, then find your local office and give a few hours of your time. Your cup will be filled to the brim and even overflow.
Thanks for reading and I hope you will be able to share the same experience in the future.
