Morning fellow Active Rainmakers!
In this post, I'm going to tell you what the search engines like Google look for to decide if your site or blog should be ranked on the first page... or on page 5200...
There's basically 3 things that a site like Google pays attention to:
- Keyword Optimization
- Age
- Fresh and or changing content
The first one, keyword optimization, sounds all techy but all it really means is what's your page title and do you mention the title a couple of time on the page. That's about all.
If your keyword or title of your page is something that has 20 million search results, then you have to compete against 20 million others. That's pretty tough.
On the other hand, if there are only 2,000 search results for the term or phrase, you have a much better chance of getting to the first page of Google.
The second one you can't do much about. Your site is either old or it isn't so we'll leave that one for now.
The third one, fresh or changing content, is difficult if you have a static website. BLOGs are what the engines like (for today anyway). Blogs allow you to easily add new content every day.
If you don't have your own blog, they are mostly free to set up and pretty easy to run.
For info on setting up your own blog you can hop over to Real Estate Rocket Fuel.com . There's also a cool little agent marketing toolkit you can get. It's free.
To sum it up - since you can't do anything about the age of your site or page, you CAN put up a keyword optimized blog and add content daily. Your chances of making it to the top will increase dramatically.
It's been said that you need 700 visitors to get one client from the internet. With the right tools and a blog, you can reduce that number by 10 fold, get a LOT more traffic to your site, and start cashing in on marketing your business online.
