We might have it a little better here....

I return comment for comment.A recent news article indicates that about twenty million Chinese live in caves, which, if you think about it, might not be all that bad. After all, they probably don't have a mortgage, so they are not under water, trying to accomplish a short sale, or in the throes of foreclosure.

Interestingly, the article states that many of the caves have been in the same family for many generations and even have plumbing, electrical wiring, and cable television. In some areas, there are even communities of connected caves.

Apparently the soil insulates the caves so that the interior temperature never drops below about 55°F even in winter.

We might have it a little better here in San Diego....

If you need something more than a cave -- a charming Craftsman cottage, a ranch, a modern "smart" home, an urban condominium -- feel free to contact me.

Jim - Living in a cave?  That's pretty interesting, but I don't think it's for me...  :)

Talk about back to basics. So, do they never have to sweep or mop the floor? There are times when living in a cave away from all the hussle and bussle sounds pretty tempting!

This last winter while paying the heat bill I would have traded this place for a cave.  Then I think about my allergies and come to my senses.

Hi Jim - I didn't know about the Chinese, but I know that many amber miners in Australia live in underground homes.  Some are beautiful inside (if you aren't claustrophobic!) and maintain a steady temperature year around.

I'm telling you, I would love to live in a cave. Don't know why, but I think it would just be cool!

In Dallas when the wave of environmental building hit we had one new home built below grade with a dome top.  Same thing about constant temperature, etc.  Really would take a specialized buyer should this ever go on the market because it looked odd and certainly was a niche build.  Great interesting story about the caves.  Thanks Jim!
