This week-end if you're looking for a causal oldie but goodie place for lunch or dinner than I have just the spot for you! This restaurant's history goes back to the 1800s. If you're looking for a unique place with delicious food you'll find it on Red River Street in downtown Austin!

The Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill is located where the pre-Austin settlement of some of the oldest commercial buildings in Austin can be found. A German settler named Henry F. Hofheintz built a small building for his store of trade goods and as a corncrib for his mule team. This building became known as the "Sunday House". It was named that due to an arrangement between the city and German settlers allowing Hofheintz to empty the goods from that house on Saturdays so rural families could stay overnight then visit the markets and attend Sunday church the next morning. That house is now 150 years old. There used to be more than 30 Sunday Houses in Austin, but, over the years they've been torn down one by one. Hofheintz's Sunday House is now the last one in Austin. The building has been operated by a number of small businesses between 1952 and today; and in 2003 it was established as the Moonshine Patio Bar & Grill and is on the National Register of Historic Places.
A sampling of their menu...for Starters there Southern Grit Cake with fried crawfish, aioli and house hot sauce...Roasted Garlic Bulbs with toast points, goat cheese and marinated red peppers...and Fried Green Tomatoes with smoked shrimp, remoulade and pimento. On the Sandwich menu there's Backyard Chicken with pepper jack, avocado, poblano, onion, apple bbq sauce, mayo, red leaf lettuce and tomato. On the Platter menu there's Chicken & Waffles with lemon butter, maple syrup and chipotle cream gravy...Shrimp and Grits with head-on, tasso ham, corn and tomato...Cedar Plank Salmon with chow chow ...and Ranger Cattle Texas Wagyu Meatloaf served with brown gravy. The Dessert menu has Peanut Butter Mousse Pie with an Oreo cookie crust...White Chocolate Bread Pudding with bourbon cream sauce, raisins, pecans and vanilla bean ice cream...and their Signature Skillet Apple Pie with salted caramel ice cream.
