Tips for Returning Snowbirds to Prepare Your Home for Sale.
If you are a returning South Florida snowbird and planning on putting your home on the market, here are some tips that will help you get it in show-ready condition.
Remember...presentation matters!
Buyers will want to see that your home is in the kind of condition that will support the price you’re asking.
If they, like you, are a snowbird, they will more than likely want a home that is in move-in ready condition, so that they can spend their time enjoying the sun and the beach.
EXTERIOR
1. Ditch the plants and flowers that didn’t survive our summer temps and replace with plants that do not need as much water or sun. South Florida is entering its dryer season so plants that don’t need a lot of water will work best.
Trim bushes and shrubs that grew another 3 or 4 feet while you were gone.
2. Feed lawns and shrubs now that our extreme heat has passed. Don’t forget to feed your palms their nitrogen, potassium, and magnesium.
3. If you have had your hurricane shutters up (Hurricane season is not over until the end of November) while you were out of town, take them down.
4. Check your pool even if you had a service caring for it. If the chemicals couldn’t defeat the heat and it has a green tinge to it, better get help!
5. While putting out your lawn and patio furniture that you may have had stored, give it a good cleaning. If you left it out and it has faded, rusted, crusted or said “I give up” to the intense sunlight and salt air, replace it.
INTERIOR
1. Check all of your appliances to make sure they are working. Repair or replace them before you list your home.
2. If your home was closed up all summer, be sure to air it out. Let some fresh air in.
3. Check for burned out lights in your fixtures inside and out.
4. Cleaning crew or not, check your rooms for spider webs and dead bugs.
These are just a few tips to help you prepare your home for sale. For more information, contact your local professional home stager.
