It's Black Friday today so many of you are out shopping for bargains. I'm sure you've all had your fill of turkey so I've got just the place for you to stop and rest those tired feet and feast on some good food! The site of this restaurant dates back to 1842 and a local innkeeper who felt very strongly about preserving Austin as the capital of Texas.
EBERLY https://eberlyaustin.com
Angelina Eberly was not afraid of President Sam Houston, and, let he and his Texas Rangers know how much she wanted to keep Austin as the capital of TX by firing a cannon at them during a rebellion. The restaurant was founded by a group of Austinites not only as a reminder that Austin is worth fighting for, but, as a tribute to the free spirit of Angelina Eberly. What used to be an old print shop is now a place for dining, drinking and thinking - a distinctively authentic place. Inside there's a beautiful dining room that serves contemporary American fare with a welcoming study, a rooftop event space that overlooks downtown and the Cedar Tavern Bar of Greenwich Village in NYC. Yes, the actual bar. Since the Cedar Tavern was a living piece of history in NYC, the partners of Eberly purchased the bar when it closed for good in NYC. It was deconstructed and moved to Austin where it the bar fits perfectly in Eberly.
Here is a sampling of what's on their menu...For starters, how about some Beef Tartare - filet mignon, bone marrow, chili giardiniera, buttermilk fried shallots and grilled sourdough bread. You could try the Baked Oysters - four oysters, black garlic, brown butter mignonette and panko breadcrumbs...or the Cornmeal Hushpuppies with andouille, green lentil jambalaya and shaved ricotta salata. On the main menu there's Niman Ranch Pork Chop with black beluga lentils, braised greens, pickled radish and bordelaise...The Wood Grilled Filet - an 8 oz. filet with green asparagus, potato crushed onions, charred scallion and mustard seed gastrique...or The Pan Roasted Market Fish with brussels sprouts, hazelnuts, pickled mushrooms, white sweet potato purée and chili gastrique.
