RING Doorbell Systems... just say NO!

By

When most of us hear "Do you have a Ring" we think of nice shiny jewelry like the rings above. Well when it comes to the RING doorbell I'm more likely to think about onions then something fine.

Not the ring I expected

When I was an active Realtor one of the high end developer/builders I represented installed RING doorbells on the homes he built. I thought they were pretty cool as I knew if I rang the doorbell on any of our model homes I'd be talking to Randy even if he was at home in Utah and not on the construction site.

Don't buy oneBecause of that experience I decided to buy one.

BIG MISTAKE!

I would NOT recommend this product to anyone under any condition! Let me tell you why.

1) It is the most expensive product (initial purchase) on the market of it's kind. YES there are competitors out there that are superior products for less money.

2) After following the instructions to the T multipule times, with a company representative on line with me, we/she dicided I had a defective product. I returned it to Target and got another one. Same thing. I told a friend who works on the Best Buys Geek Squad. He came to the house and set it up in a few minutes. I'd hate to think what this would have cost me if I wasn't a friend of the Geek squad.

3) After you purchase the most expensive product of it's kind you have to purchase a monthly subscription as well or the product is pretty much worthless.

4) Try calling customer service! Really! If you find a phone number you will talk to someone who knows English as a second language and doesn't seem to know anything about billing. My real life experience yesterday was that I was on the website for no less then 45 minutes trying to purchase a monthly plan... no success. I spent another half hour with a representive through "chat". After the half hour he said they can not take payment throught the website. I got a phone number and after a forty five minutes there, two representatives and a supervisor, I finally got the wonderful opportunity to PAY for their service... oh boy!

OBVIOUSLY my advice is to avoid this product at all costs. There are better products out there for less money. Investigate! I wish I would have.

Hi Bob... I stick with my good old-fashioned regular door bell... never had any fascination with all the new offerings. Sounds like I'm on the right path in this regard.

Hi Bob, sorry to hear you've had issues with your Ring!  I received one as a C'mas gift several years ago.  I installed it at my office (I own the building) and I have absolutely LOVED having one.  I can see who's coming and going, we never miss a potential client, and I can have a conversation with anyone on the front porch, even if I'm 200 miles away.  Best invention ever!

We've had a Ring doorbell for several years and we really like it. My only complaint is that it has to be charged at least once a week which seems excessive. I wish your experience had been better.

I agree that you are indeed on the right path with this one Nina Hollander . I've never been more disappointed with a product AND service as I am with RING.

Melinda (Mel) Peterson I'm glad you did not go through the hell I did to get mine operational. Adding to my woes is the location of my front door (under a carport) which doesn't give me the best view of what's truly happening in front of my house.

Thank goodness that has not yet been the case for me Debe Maxwell, CRS . Since Christmas I've only had to charge it up once. I thought about purchasing a spare but I could buy another one of those "other" systems I mentioned for the price of a RING battery.

Bob, so sorry to hear you have had a bad experience with RING.   I bought one when they first came out.   I can watch when I get deliveries and scurry home before they disappear by a porch pirate.   Can also see who is at the door when I am in the basement, and have a conversation.  I love mine and installed both by myself.

I purchased mine for the exact reasons you have stated Joan Cox but so far it's just been a big headache. Maybe now that it's set up and I'm paying the monthly fee it will work OK. With that crappy monthly fee I doubt I'll ever get my moneys worth out of it unless it actually prevents a crime.

I also like the fact, I can see who is at my door if I want to open it.  I am single, and just gives me a secure feeling.  I paid the fee for a year, so don't have a monthly fee to pay.

Bob- very sorry to hear this and I can't say NO because I've had one for over 2 years and love it. I bought mine directly from Amazon. When I've had to call Customer Service, it was excellent, in fact I wrote a post about it just a few weeks ago.

When we were out of town recently, I saw that we had a package delivered and alerted my neighbor who was able to retrieve it before a Porch Pirate could.

My brother has one and loves it as well and we just installed one for our neighbor across the street.

I hope mine works out as well as yours has Kathy Streib .  After my experience I'm amazed you have had a good experience with their customer experience.

Morning Bob.

One of my sons bought one and loves it.  For me, I doubt I will ever try it, but thanks for the heads up

Good morning Bob. I am not a fan and if I got one my wife would kill me. Guess you now know her opinion. Enjoy your day!

Hi Bob Crane

We don't have a RING and I'm not sure I would want one. A friend told me they could be cyber targets.

Between me, my neighbors and my residency in the great state of AZ . . . with all the rights and privileges afforded . . . oh and there's the dog and my neighbor's dogs . . . we just don't worry about who's coming around.

They should, though. Judging how quickly the UPS guy tippie-toes to my door, carefully places the package, then quickly rings and runs . . . I think many do.

I also have concerns about anything that can 'hear me'. LOL the apertures on ALL TVs and computers are taped over.

And yes I suspect my next wedding ring will be fashioned of tinfoil. LOL

I have heard of that as well Doug Dawes . If someone one would tap into mine it may cure their insomnia.

You are a hoot Candice A. Donofrio . I don't worry about my house when I'm home, or if my neighbor is home, because I am well armed. I liked the idea of communicating when I'm not home.

I'm thinking next spring it's time for me to replace my dog. It's been 3 years since his passing.
