A Different Point of View

To think is to Create - October Challenge. If you haven't had a chance to share your stories of what you've learned, changed, improved upon over the past few months - now is your opportunity!

Personally I've had an amazing journey this past few months or so. I have arrived at a place where things that seem small are huge, and things that used to seem huge, now seem small. That hadn't been my intention but that's what's happened!  Michael Jacobs wrote an interesting post about this very subject, The Long and Short Of it.

I realized while reading Michael's post that he 'gets' what I'm experiencing and I have a feeling from reading so many awesome posts that you all have written for the contest - that MANY of you do as well.  Our 'worlds' have changed in so many ways during the pandemic and some changes came quite by surprise.  My one small but huge change in behavior created an entirely different 'feeling place' and I'm loving it!

Nature..... is amazing! Every day during the pandemic shut down, we both made a decisive choice to take more time to slow down, and simply notice the incredible show of nature  gifted to us right in the microcosm of our backyard!  It's a beautiful oasis bursting with color and serenity. Every morning we also decided to spend time in the pool  simply appreciating our life.  Simply Appreciating!  We've lived here over 22 years and there hasn't been one year, until this year, that we did that!  We were 'too busy' or so we thought....

To top it all off - Gary just happened to capture a photo of this incredible Cooper Hawk eying the birds and critters from our roof yesterday. We were absolutely awestruck by his magnificence!  He stood tall, over looking our backyard and quietly moving his head ever so slightly while noticing EVERY move around him. Including Gary! He had but a second to catch a photo and thankfully he did. It was meant to be!

I mean, really, as in REALLY look at this incredible  Cooper Hawk and notice all the tiny details.....he's beautiful!

Life is good.   And life is really pretty simple is we let it flow!

Hi Kathy Schowe it's the first time we've seen this guy even close to us.  I think he had other ideas on his mind.  Our yard is full of all kinds of birds.  Was pretty incredible seeing him!  I've got another fountain story....later!

Hi James Dray yes that's fun to do as well. We live right by the mountain preserve and we see a lot of hawks flying up high just floating around - seeing what's out there. Very fun to watch them up so high.

Hi Nina Hollander it really is 'it' in a nutshell.  The shut down forced us all to seriously stay home and concentrate on what's in front of us.  It's been a interesting jouryney and peaceful to boot!  The odd part is that  I 'thought' I was so in tune with nature (and I was) by hiking 25 to 30 years 4 or 5 miles every morning up and down the mountain.  But this is different.....it just is.

Hi Kathleen Daniels, Probate & Trust Specialist it truly has been a silver lining this year....who knew!!  Thinking of nature I so enjoyed your chicken story a few years back. It was simply fun to hear the saga.....and your enthusiasm for it all!  Very similar to what I've been feeling. Silver lining!

Hi Carol Williams it does give one a whole new perspective on nature.  The colors and patterns of birds is incredible! Everything really!

Haha yes that's what we started the summer with....sell and buy a home on a golf course with no pool.  Well that's off the table now! Seriously we were in the pool more this summer than in 10 years total! Sometimes twice a day! Something to be said for having to hand at home :)

All of us have learned a great deal this year.  I'm glad we decided to host this challenge as it's been so interesting to hear about everyones journey!!

Hi Rocky Dickerson I had never seen a Coopers Hawk up so close.  Flying up in the air but that was it. Did you check out the tallons on that guy?  Sure don't want him coming after our little Barney Dog.  6M types of birds.  I believe that.  I'm on an amazing nature group on FB and the colors of birds blows my mind.

Anna even when we are busy, we can make time to enjoy life.  All it takes is determination, and commitment to do so.  Good to see you and Larry have made that commitment.

Hi George Souto yes in a way we can.  This summer has been different as the goal was to slow down and try things differently. Turns out it was way more productive but our focus was on the immediate now moment. Sounds odd I know, but it worked/played well for both Gary and I.

Hi Anna- Love your new point of view. being out in nature and seeing the beauty of nature had helped me keep my sanity. We too have Coopers Hawks and other hawks and have a love/hate relationship with them. We love how beautiful they are but have to shoo them away when our birds are around.

Hi Kathy Streib they are so awesome looking, inspiring almost.... and I sure don't want them harming or worse the birds or Barney.  Oh no, that's not going to happen. Thankfully Barney wants to be in the house 99.9% of the time. He's older now so we make sure one of us his with him when he goes out for 5 seconds....and then back in to get a treat!!

Anna,

Hawks are Ron's Medicine Bird according to our former Yoga teacher who now lives on a island off the coast of Seattle.  We see them here all the ttime, especially the red tailed variety.   We often watch them being chased by crows and ravens who live in the trees near the channel where we live!  Enjoyed your post...A

Ahhh well I'm quite sure Ron and Alexandra Seigel would have appreciated this hawk standing stately and ever so watchful on our roof.  It was an amazing site@
