I am Thankful that the wind doesn't always blow.

WARNING

MULTIPULE MEANINGS MAY APPLY

Over the last two days the entire State of ND has had steady winds of 25 to 70 miles per hour.... NOT gusts, steady winds!  Today, at last, things are "normal" for us.

Starting with the obvious, most any wind is hard felt during our winter months (even though winter doesn't technically start until December 21st). Check out the wind chill chart below. We were lucky that over the last two days the temperature  was around 30 degrees above zero as opposed to the fact we do get to 30 degrees below zero with out the wind chill.

My sentiment that I am thankful that the wind doesn't blow all the time holds true in other ways as well. I am thankful that the winds of change are not always at gale force speeds in my personal life.

My last post was about family. The family I was born into suffered gale force winds with divorce and death. So far the family that I am the father to has suffered little with the winds of change. The strongest winds, far below gale force, have been my sons diagnosis as being on the autism spectrum,  my daughters choice to attend collage out of State, and the realization that we were attending a church that didn't feel Christ centered (we are very happy where we are now).

I would guess that 90% of us have had the winds of change broadside our career paths. Like the trucks that were literally blown off the interstate highway in North Dakota this week many of us have found our careers/jobs in the ditch as well. I confess that my vehicle of employment has hit the ditch more times then I care to admit over the 50 plus years I've been working.

Restating my statement of thankfulness for today... I am glad that the wind doesn't always blow.

I am also thankful to Debe Maxwell, CRS for her challenge to give thanks over the 10 days preceding the day of Thanksgiving. Check out the challenge today.

Hello Bob - I can appreciate multiple meanings.  Whether they be weather related or something else, there is much that can be learned.  And that's another thing to be thankful.

Enjoy your day!

Anna Banana Kruchten CRS, CRB, Phoenix Broker that sounds like a heavenly plan. I am hoping that when Carol retires we will be able to chase the sun. There always seems to be some reason, kids, jobs, etc. that keeps us in the frozen Northland.

Debe Maxwell, CRS "by the grace of God" is the only way I've survived. I've been through so much more than I'd ever dreamed I could survive.

Those calm spots seem to come at just the right time Grant Schneider and they usually last just long enough to let us recharge before the next storm.

Dear Bob,

Winds have power that is not to be underestimated. Last night, it was a balmy 76, but after a little wind and a cold rain, it dropped to 56 in an hour. The time of year, where you should always bring a coat.

That's for sure Dorte Engel . During our Fall in North Dakota we often head to work with coats, gloves, and stocking hats. By noon we may he heading to lunch with none of that.

That brings up some great imagery Ed Silva . You would think the Rooster up there would get dizzy and fall off from time to time.

Bob "RealMan" Timm - something you might appreciate to ponder which is so applicable to all of us but especially to you because it's on your mind. I hope it helps:

What does wind weather symbolize?

It represents the spirit, the vital breath of the universe. J.C. Cooper points out that wind represents the power of spirit in sustaining life and holding it together. Hence the symbolic association of wind with cords, ropes and threads. ... Winds serve as messengers of the gods and can indicate the presence of divinity.

Bob, I like your perspective on how the winds blow and the force at which the winds can impact our lives in a flash.
