Over the last two days the entire State of ND has had steady winds of 25 to 70 miles per hour.... NOT gusts, steady winds! Today, at last, things are "normal" for us.
Starting with the obvious, most any wind is hard felt during our winter months (even though winter doesn't technically start until December 21st). Check out the wind chill chart below. We were lucky that over the last two days the temperature was around 30 degrees above zero as opposed to the fact we do get to 30 degrees below zero with out the wind chill.
My sentiment that I am thankful that the wind doesn't blow all the time holds true in other ways as well. I am thankful that the winds of change are not always at gale force speeds in my personal life.
My last post was about family. The family I was born into suffered gale force winds with divorce and death. So far the family that I am the father to has suffered little with the winds of change. The strongest winds, far below gale force, have been my sons diagnosis as being on the autism spectrum, my daughters choice to attend collage out of State, and the realization that we were attending a church that didn't feel Christ centered (we are very happy where we are now).
I would guess that 90% of us have had the winds of change broadside our career paths. Like the trucks that were literally blown off the interstate highway in North Dakota this week many of us have found our careers/jobs in the ditch as well. I confess that my vehicle of employment has hit the ditch more times then I care to admit over the 50 plus years I've been working.
Restating my statement of thankfulness for today... I am glad that the wind doesn't always blow.
