I joined ActiveRain as a real estate agent back in September of 2006. The network had just started, and there were only about 3,000 members or so at the time. It was easy to get to know everyone, and I quickly felt right at home. I made lots of connections, many of which I still maintain today.
As the market began to slow down, I began exploring interests outside real estate and eventually launched my web design company, Brown Bug, LLC. I've never looked back on my career move. I can't see myself ever getting back into sales, but one thing I have missed is the ActiveRain community.
Since my last "real" blog post at the beginning of 2008, I've looked high and low for a network that compares to ActiveRain, and so far, I've had no success. There's no other network that invites such diversity, while making everyone feel welcomed and at home. The people here are, for the most part, friendly and conversational. It really is just like a neighborhood, and I've missed it.
I've decided that web designers (and formerly active agents) can still be friends and network with active real estate agents, so I'm moving back in!
I now run Brown Bug, LLC, a web design company where the goal is to create professional-looking websites that are true representations of our clients' personalities and that are easy for our clients to maintain once the design is done.
An ideal Brown Bug client is someone who:
Is looking to create a website or blog that's a true expression of his or her personality. Wants a website or blog that's easy to maintain and update. Likes clean, simple, and easy-to-navigate over flashy, cluttered, and complicated. Is (as Michael Port would say) a "rapid responder - talk today, done tomorrow." Doesn't have the time or desire to learn everything it takes to build a functional and professional-looking site. Doesn't want a $10,000 site that can't be maintained on his or her own. Is a solopreneur or small business owner wearing multiple hats and trying to grow his or her business organically.Brown Bug, LLC creates web designs that are true representations of our clients' personalities and are easy for them to maintain after the design is done.
