Our Communities Just as Phoenix is the "hub" of the commercial activity of the Southwest, it is also the core around which twenty-plus communities have grown. Collectively they are known as the "Valley of the Sun" and they cover a small part of the sprawling 9,127 square miles of Maricopa County. Some Valley cities are well-known to those outside of Arizona:
Scottsdale, as the resort destination of choice for sun and recreation; Tempe, as the site of the Arizona State University; Paradise Valley, as a residential town of idyllic as the name implies and Sun City as the home of active retirees. Glendale, the home of the University of Phoenix Stadium. It is the home of the Arizona Cardinals and the annual Fiesta Bowl.
The primary reasons people relocate to the Valley of the Sun is the warm weather, wages and weekends. The sun is shining more than 300 days each year! Not to mention it attracts those that are seeking to settle in a community that is socially, economically and culturally hospitable.
Phoenix has exploded to become the nation's sixth most populous city with about 1.5 million residents. Since 1950 Phoenix has grown to encompass more than 430 square miles. Once know has the 'Four C's' that were the cornerstones of its early twentieth-century economy, cotton, cattle, citrus and copper.
Gilbert is one of the fastest growing municipalities in the nation. And for good reason! For those seeking a dynamic, community minded environment, Gilbert has it all, delivering a contemporary suburban lifestyle bordered by the urban resources of the adjacent Phoenix. Scottsdale -
Scottsdale is regarded as an upscale tourist and shopping destination. As of 2009 the population of the city was 244,250. Downtown is described as "a desert version of Miami's South Beach" and as having "plenty of late night partying and a buzzing hotel scene" by the New York Times.
Scottsdale is bordered to the west by Phoenix and Paradise Valley, to the north by Carefree, to the south by Tempe, and to the east by Fountain Hills.
Queen Creek -
Queen Creek is one of the best-kept secrets in Arizona. Enjoy the benefits of small-town living close to a metropolitan area: low crime rates, easy commuting to and from metro Phoenix. Outdoor enthusiasts take pleasure in golfing, hiking, biking and horseback riding year round. This small town is an oasis in the East Valley of the Phoenix metropolitan area.
Tempe is located in the heart of the Phoenix Metropolitan area. Tempe businesses can access six freeways, and Sky Harbor airport is just five minutes from downtown and a variety of alternative transportation methods. Home to Arizona State University, Sun Devil Stadium, and the very popular Arizona Mills Shopping District, Tempe provides a unique and diverse home for its nearly 170,000 residents.
There are solid reasons why more than 450,000 people call Mesa home: low costs of doing business, reasonable tax structure, skilled and well-educated workforce, affordable housing and an excellent quality of life. Located nearby Mesa is the world-famous Superstition Mountains where many still search for the "Lost Dutchman's Gold Mine". Mesa has much to offer from golf, hiking, fishing, horseback riding, museums and theaters.
Chandler is a great city to live in due the many facets of the community. Chandler is located in the East Valley and has approximately 276,000 residents. Eclectic art galleries, trendy boutiques, tasty restaurants and the historic Crowne Plaza San Marcos Golf Resort is the center of downtown Chandler. Chandler has more than a half-dozen quality courses and literally hundreds more within a short drive.
Ahwatukee is an "L"-shaped bedroom community bordered on the north by South Mountain Park and Baseline Road, on the east by Interstate 10 and the cities of Chandler, Guadalupe, and Tempe. Ahwatukee has been recognized by Money Magazine as one of America's "Best Places to Live". Planned residential communities and just minutes from downtown Phoenix and Sky Harbor Airport.
Fountain Hills -
Fountain Hills is nestled in the North Valley McDowell Mountains, 30 miles northeast of downtown Phoenix and 11 miles from central Scottsdale. The town has 18.2 square miles within its boundaries. Fountain Hills affords the visitor one of the last great destinations in the Valley with unsurpassed desert beauty.
Apache Junction -
Apache Junction is a rural bedroom community. It is located a half hour away from downtown Phoenix. It is right next door to some of the most rugged and beautiful wilderness in the country. According to legend, in 1840 the Peralta family developed a rich gold mine in the Superstition Mountains, which lie on the east edge of town.
Gold Canyon -
Gold Canyon is a newer, well maintained unincorporated city in Pinal County about 40 minutes east of the Phoenix Sky Harbor airport. It is considered an upscale community that has many affordable homes. The view of the Superstition Mountain, along with evening sunsets, is one of the most picturesque areas in all of Arizona.
