My husband badgered me for years to recognize that I had the skills to be a good Realtor. My response was, “Are you completely nuts?”
While I find people fascinating and I love the creativity of marketing, I am also an analytical “geek” who loves to delve into the details and solve a mental puzzle. I knew that real estate would fulfill the people and marketing needs, but I feared the analytical side of me would be left out in the cold. (I must also admit, my unspoken fear was that the mere act of becoming a Realtor – a salesperson - would somehow make people flee from me at social events.)
After years of “dripping water on a stone”, my husband was right. This has to be the most fascinating, people-oriented, intellectually stimulating, creative, unbelievably satisfying profession – and I turned out to be pretty darn good at it!
My quirky combination of skills are exactly the skills that are necessary to serve real estate clients well. Every property, contract and negotiation is a new and unique puzzle that requires research and analysis. “Selling” real estate turns out to be attentive listening, caring about my clients’ needs and goals, counseling through the buying or selling process, expert negotiation and tracking the unbelievable number of details to achieve a successful outcome.
And, best yet, no one runs from me at social events!
