After being a sales agent for about 12 years, I enjoyed another 8 years as the office manager for our East/Bexley office. With between 35-50 agents, this was a wonderful experience. We were consistently in either the top 10% or 20% of Coldwell Banker offices nationwide. I was able to work with a great group of agents, staff, management, and corporate support professionals. In late 2009, I re-entered the sales world and feel great about it. I want to avoid saying things like "all the economic indicators are pointing in the right direction" or "it's a great environment: low rates, low prices, plenty of inventory." Even though ALL OF THOSE THINGS ARE TRUE, I would be excited even if they were not.With the perspective I have gained in 8 years as a manager, seeing what works and what does not work, I realize that a good agent with good habits, good knowledge, and a good company will do just fine in any economy. We just need to always work in the client's best interest, treat the public fairly and ethically, and use our knowledge and time wisely. Everything else will follow like a caboose follows the train. It is just a simple track to follow.
