You will work insane hours. there is no such thing as a weekend. You'll get calls late at night and very early in the morning. Its a lifestyle not a job.
You're in sales. Nothing less nothing more. If you can sell a silk scarf you can sell a property.
I only share the aspect of the job that would relate to the listener.
A young, first time buyer, has no interest in the complexities of selling a home within a trust owned by two in a assistance center, but they DO have interest in how you can find them the unicorn for which they long.
I don't even try to explain it. There are just too many scenarios we deal with involving a variety of people and orginizations, town, state, and county regulations, etc, etc. taxes, short sales, foreclosures, divorce, liens, death, families, trusts, title issues, permits, and on and on.

Write down the things that you do, why you do it, and how does it affect people, and all the different people and business you have to work with, such as Lenders, Inspectors, Buyers, Sellers, Title Companies, Mortgage Brokers, Banks and the list goes on.
Then ask them if the are in the market to buy a house. If they say No, then ask them if the ant to sell theirs. That always loosens them up! You would be surprised how many referrals you will get from them!
I say I am a professional visitor and a part time fire fighter.
It is hard - either people see the big bucks or the horror stories.
