My dear husband grew up with carved turnip. It never occurred to me until just this year that those poor children had to walk around with the smell of burning turnip!! There was no trick or treating but instead, a fireworks display. Child abuse I say!

Turnips, really? I'm glad pumpkin became the tradtion.
I believe it is turnips, though I do not carve either one of them. I would rather use food for its intended purpose.

It is just about time for pumpkin or turnip carving time. This is an interesting bit of trivia.
